Maybe need to lock to a specific band is this SA or require "handshake" the anchor LTE bands before getting :

NSA — Non-Standalone 5G

or

SA — Standalone 5G

LayerBand
LTE AnchorB1/B3/B7
5G Layern78
???

No standalone (SA) 5G networks yet, at least in our country.
Use NSA mode.
What router do you have? The G5TS?

Rain is fully stand alone. In fact also the only mobile network with VoNR for their voice option so you can make calls over LTE and 5G.

@Borax945: Try to lock onto the 5G N78 band and see if the 5G band becomes active. You can also try the N41 band if available.

If you are using a G5TS router you can do this from the Developer Options menu. If you have the PCI & EARFCN values for the 5G bands in your area you can also try to lock onto those. You can usually get those values from the 5G Cell Information (PCI, 5G Frequency) under the Device Information section of the System Menu but those values might not show up if the band is not active.

Thanks - I'mmbased in Mulbarton JHB South - do you perhaps know the 5G tower this side?

Thanks

Vodacom is using a hybrid 4G/5G NSA 5G configuration which requires these anchor 4G bands - usually B1 and B3. If you can't connect to any 5G bands then you may have to change to one of the Cool Ideas MTN products.

@Borax945: What router are you using ? Are you sure that the 5G bands are not active ? Where are you seeing the N41 and N78 bands ?Usually there is a light on the front of the router that changes colour if 5G is active.
