Agreed but in the South African context it's not the main culprit. I view a taxi doing 70kmh on Louis Botha Avenue a far greater threat than a cowboy in his M3 whizzing past me on the N3.
I've had 2 serious accidents in my life, the 1st was due to driver fatigue and a wet road, I rolled my car down Harrow road doing 65kmh after misjudging the curb, clipped it and rolled down the wet road into a tree. I was into my 7 month of working a 7 day week, 12 hours a day.
My 2nd was when a motorist turned in front of me, it was 7pm and raining, he was pulling off doing probably 20kmh and I was doing maybe 60kmh. The car spun and conveniently landed outside the Kempton Park magistrate.
Perhaps important to is the speed in relation to the vehicle. A 30tonne truck doing 140kmh posses far greater threat than the cowboy doing 140kmh in his M3

Ok, I don't want to choose sides but I'm not gonna deny it, I have gone 220+ on public roads... more than once. I can see the perspective that Jason is talking about as well as that from the others.
You get speeding and the you get speeding, what's the difference? The one is stupid and the other is not... How is this possible you may ask? Easy, the one is reckless and the other is not. And before wanting to jump in and say speeding is reckless driving, can you actually point me to the study proving that speeding is reckless driving? Or are you gonna state about what you believe or heard?
Go do the maths and see how many people die on public roads because of speeding, I'm sure you'll find it's something like 1% of fatal accidents are caused due to excessive speeding.
If they were driving in 20 km/h zone and you strike somebody at 21 km/h and that person dies, were you speeding? According to what law would states, yes, you were speeding but then again would you consider 21 km/h speeding? Were you driving recklessly? According to some yes, but then again, please provide me with the study proving that speeding = reckless driving.
The fact of the matter is, some can handle speed a lot easier than other, and this has been proven, that's why some people can become pilots and others not.
So before pointing fingers and calling each other names and trying to tell other to act like a grown up etc make sure you yourself is acting like a grown up and are actually capable of handling such scenarios.
PS - I have driving on various open days and circuits as well if you were wondering.
@Jason - Still waiting on that pic... cause I've only been in the Mustang GT, not the GT500, but I must say, my favorite is still driving in the Ford GT... that's a beast from another planet

220 on Jan smuts is crazy. You're going to need several hundred metres to stop from that speed on a straight and level road. AFAIK Jan smuts is far from straight and level. That's straight physics, driver skill is hardly part of the equation. In that sense 220 on a highway is much safer. All the fancy gadgets in those cars can only do so much, it cannot defeat physics.
If you hit someone at 20 and he dies, it's most probably because he fell badly. What are the chances of hitting someone at 20 though? At that speed it's likely more the fault of the pedestrian.
There's not a legal difference between speeding and excessively speeding, but there is a difference nonetheless. Find a way for the lawyers to draw a better line, and I'd be the first to support it.

omw!! I never said it was an original Gt500,The only differencee between my car and an original gt500 is the body kit other than that there is no difference!!! I am running a 5,7L gt500 motor in it!!! and yes i know how much an original Gt500 costs if you can find 1 u'll pay between R200 000 and R400 000 depending on the condition of the body and motor!! Mine cost me R190 000 paid R30 000 more than book value because of the gt500
motor in it!! i'd like all of you to bring you cars and lets go for a drag race and see who crosses the line 1st!! Let's settle this the proper way on the black top!!
