We basically have to whitewash Bang and WI at home.

Then we have to win as many matches as possible in England and Aus to bump our prospects. Any slip-ups and we're out.

I fully expect that England will suddenly remember how to play test cricket when we get there.
 
New rules announced.

Crossing has no influence anymore. New batsmen will always be on strike except when wicket falls on the last ball of an over.
Mankad is now part of runouts and not obstructing the field
The banning of saliva to shine the ball is now permanent and not just a covid measure.

The rules come into effect 1 October

Ambivalent about this batters swapping rule. Don't really have an issue with it.

Mankadding may be permissible in the letter of the law but it is still an unsportsmanlike thing (imo of course) to do. Hope it never catches on.

As for not using saliva, at first glance, that is just dumb. If not a Covid measure, then for what reason has this been made permanent? It remains to be seen what effect this will have but it just seems to be yet another decision made in the interests of the batter. Bowlers are already on a hiding to nothing these days with fielding restrictions and the ever improving technology in bats making even edges now travel for six. Who would want to be a fast bowler...

EDIT: Just read on cricbuzz now that the saliva ban is due to the fact that it 'unfairly changes the condition of the ball'. Sweat it seems will still be permissible. To me, sweat mixed in with some nice oily sun cream would have more of an effect but ok.

Apparently from tests the amount of swing pre covid saliva ban and post covid was the same hence the permanent ban.

Most bowlers are very unhappy about this change

Don't like this. In limited overs chases, it was always tactical to go for a big shot, knowing that the batters can cross and protect the new batter even if you hole out.
