Cricket: International Discussion Thread

@Pegasus

I think @Speedster and @stefan9 are so anti-England / English they will find anything to bash England sports teams and players.

If it was any other player from any other team they would not bat an eyelid.
When the Bristol thing with Stokes happened, I thought he started it, like a typical limey POS street thug, ginger c88t etc etc...

Turns out I had the wrong idea.

My respect for the oke has grown since then.

If he is a good player, England will be stupid not to select him, England and the ECB need to start winning on the cricket field.
Is he any good at county? I know he’s good at white-ball, but England’s white-ball batting is stacked anyways. A guy like Hales would walk into most other national teams but England don’t even look at him.

Archer ruled out of the English summer. Misses the SA series.
Sad for jofra he is very exciting to watch at his best. Root totally over bowling him in nz seems to have had disastrous long term consequences.

Sad for him but good for us. I seem to recall we battled against him last time.

Fast bowlers are the purest and greatest of cricketers and they’re always getting injured. :crying:

Spinners are okay but can’t captivate an audience the way a fast bowler can.

Batsmen are basically animals, trained to swing wood like uncultured hooligans.

Disagree. There was no one more captivating then warnie.

Batsmen differ you get your lumberjacks like Jon Jon smuts then the classicals like root&kallis.

Bangladesh doing a brilliant job of rebuilding. From 24/5, they are now 147/5; Rahim & Das doing the repair job.

Bangladesh of the opinion that if it ain't broke, don't fix it. This time, 23/4 in their second dig against Sri Lanka, trailing by 118. Can Das and Rahim do it again...?

The test between England and New Zealand gets underway today from Lord's at 12pm (our time) amid some controversy over exorbitant ticket prices. Both sides look to be at full strength with the likes of Broad & Anderson back for England and Williamson back for New Zealand. Should be good entertainment.

England vs New Zealand, 1st Test

New Zealand have won the toss and have opted to bat

England:
Alex Lees, Zak Crawley, Ollie Pope, Joe Root, Jonny Bairstow, Ben Stokes (C), Ben Foakes (WK), Matthew Potts, Stuart Broad, Jack Leach, James Anderson

New Zealand: Tom Latham, Will Young, Kane Williamson(c), Devon Conway, Daryl Mitchell, Tom Blundell(w), Colin de Grandhomme, Kyle Jamieson, Tim Southee, Ajaz Patel, Trent Boult

Real test of NZ's mettle now without the calming influence of Ross Taylor to fall back on.

Barely 10 overs into Day 1 and it looks like New Zealand will be relying on the traditional English weather to come to their aid which, judging by the 5 day forecast, it may just do. 80% chance of rain on Saturday and Sunday and 70% chance on day 5 (Monday).

Stadium is packed.

I hoped NZL would have at least put up a fight but damn this is not a good start.
