Cricket: International Discussion Thread

Good game Pakistan. Like a home game for them with that crowd support. Sets it all up for a good series.

Been a bit silent here on this thread lately…

Us Poms lost the first T20 against the Paki’s.

The last two though us Poms won.

Did anyone watch the 1st game of The Hundred, what's your thoughts on it?
Happened to watch it when flicking thru channels. I thought it was awesome. Maybe because of the good performance of the SA ladies.

Bit weird about the 5 ball overs.

You?

I agree, it was much more entertaining than I thought it would be. The Saffas did great basically won the match.

The one guy from the Zim cricket team that has impressed me is Wesley Madhevere (looks like a quality all-rounder who can hit world-class heights).

He deserves much better than Zim, he should seriously consider just moving to SA and trying to make the SA team in four years. He's only 20 so has time on his side.

I don't know why they don't just play T20s. Are you telling me there's people who can concentrate for 200 balls but not 240?

It's a money spinoff. Cricket has become commercialized sadly.

The gaps between England, Australia, India and the rest of the world will only grow. The only nation outside the "big three" that is succeeding in putting up a fight against their domination is Pakistan because the PSL has been pretty successful.

I have nothing against the commercialisation. It's done wonders for the West Indies, for example, where a generation ago, they were losing all their athletic talent to other sports, but now guys pick cricket for the lucrative T20 contracts. The T20 leagues are here to stay, and I enjoy them more than any ODIs. They don't detract from tests at all.

I'm just not understanding what 100-ball cricket achieves that T20 doesn’t.

The powers that be decided that they hadn't bastardized the sport enough with the T20 format so they introduced 100-ball cricket...

Anyone been following the Zim series? Been very impressed by Zim's all-rounder Wesley Madhevere. The kid definitely looks like he is world-class material, possibly their best player since Sean Williams and Brendan Taylor. Hopefully, he commits to another nation rather than retire having played like 20 tests for Zim like Williams and Taylor will sadly do even though both probably would have made the SA side in prime.

Madhevere is 20 and still has age on his side unlike Taylor and Williams. If he retires from Zim now, he will be eligible to play for another nation by 24.

He'd almost definitely made the SA side.
