Fantastic that five of our top six have scored nice big centuries in the last two innings, and the sixth is Kallis.

Why, why Smith, was Harris bowling towards the end there? If we'd brought on Morkel sooner we would've won by an innings - looks much more impressive than ten wickets. IMO.

his consistency?

dude, check up on his batting over the last 3 years. In 06 he was the only SA batsmen to score runs consistently.

If consistency is your criteria, why not drop Kallis?

Kallis has proven himself to be one of the greatest batsmen of all time for South Africa. Ashwell has never (in my books at least) proven any form of consistency or sign of greatness. I see it in Albie though. Prince doesnt bowl either...

Did you see the international batting stats for the two I added to my post above?

Albie was in the team as a bowler and never as a middle order batsman like Prince. The stats speak volumes and I cannot argue against them apart from what I have already stated. I have just never liked Prince and always felt personally that if Prince were to go, I would love to see Albie in his place. I do like the fact that he has found form though and would like to see him score more runs.

Prince should never ever be in the ODI team though. Tests I will wait for Albie t come through on performance in the 4 day series back home next season, but certainly get him out of the ODI squad please...

Sorry, dude, I am with you on the Prince vs Albie argument, but you fail there. Albie has not played a Test match yet.

Those were my thoughts but I assumed having been away a few years back that he maybe snuck in a few without me knowing...

Kallis has however been dismissed to some beauties. Cracking deliveries that beat him, he didnt get himself out...

We need Prince to bore the spinners, as out top order doesn't have a handle on them

well, Prince is not in the ODI team. He has sneaked in there before though, but I dont think he has been there in more than 2 years.

No chance Prince will be dropped anytime soon though, so no real point in the argument. He is the Vice Captain as well.

But yes, if Albie has another good first class season next year, he should be in for some consideration for the test squad.

Aha you are right! :) I was looking at his ODI stats.... humblest apologies! :) They unfortunately also do not quote his first class stats so can't even look at those to compare. Sorry :)

There's also a quota issue to consider, only 3 players of colour in this side.
We are supposed to have 4 ( special permission had to be granted for only 3 players ).
So unless Albie becomes a colour other than white, he ain't getting in.

SA take lead with emphatic win

http://www.supersport.co.za/cricket/article.aspx?headline=SA take lead with emphatic win&id=262351

South Africa recorded an emphatic ten-wicket victory over England on the fourth day of the second test at Headingley in Leeds on Monday.
Full Scoring

A fine rearguard-action by Stuart Broad (67*, 60 balls, 11x4) and a 61-run partnership for the tenth wicket with Darren Pattinson gave England a slender lead of eight runs.

Earlier, Tim Ambrose (36,94 balls, 5x4) and Andrew Flintoff (38, 95 balls, 5x4) also combined with a 68-run partnership for the seventh wicket to frustrate South Africa's victory march.

England, who had to score 319 runs to make South Africa bat a second time, managed 327 runs in their second innings. Morné Morkel (3/61 in 22 overs) and Dale Steyn (3/97 in 28 overs) were ably assisted by Makhaya Ntini (2/69) and Jacques Kallis (2/50).

Neil McKenzie (6*) and Graeme Smith (3*) finished the job at hand -- nine runs were needed for victory -- in only seven deliveries.

Again we struggled to finish the tail off properly. However, well done to the guys. Great one, and putting one up on the poms. :D

Ye, i agree on the tail issue, 60 odd runs for the last wicket is way too much, but fair due to Broad, he's no mug with the bat, comparatively i think our tail batting talent is quite a shade below england's last 4.

But well done Saffers, hopefully we can deny England coming back in the second half of the series, we've been in this position before ;)

Dale Steyn fractures his thumb

Damn!!! I hope he is fit to play!

Dale Steyn fractures his thumb

South Africa's main strike bowler, Dale Steyn, has suffered a fracture in his left thumb, it was revealed on Thursday.

Steyn received the injury on the final day of the second Test at Headingley when he attempted to field a ball off his own bowling.

It is understood that Steyn's thumb has been placed in a brace. South Africa's media manager, Michael Owen-Smith, said the fast bowler would be fit to play in the third Test against England at Edgbaston, starting on Wednesday.

The other injury worry, left-arm spinner Paul Harris, who hurt his right wrist when he fell in his hotel bathroom, has been pronounced fit to play in South Africa's three-day tour match against Bangladesh A, starting in Worcester on Friday.
