Through on passive cooling systems vs. fans? Trying to put together something as "environmentally friendly" as possible, and seeing how to perhaps reduce the noise pollution a bit.

You're going to drive your costs up substantially is my thought. Arctic accelero S3 is the only one that comes to mind, that is only rated up 135W for ±$50. Unless you're in an room with aircon maybe?

Yeah what I was thinking too. Just playing with ideas, but ultimately it needs to make sense.

Anyone mining on Win7 with 6 x GPU's?

My Win10 keeps throttling/limiting my primary card...i only get 18 to 22MH, whereas the other 3 is on 30MH's constantly. Occasionally the primary card will burst to 30MH. I can see the fluctuations on nVidia Inspector and I can see the undervolt/OC is applied to all cards.

When i had these cards setup with Win7, no issues. Just concerned as there is suppose 4 x GPU limit in Win7

To all the naysayers. Got my RX580 on Thursday afternoon, slapped in a riser and plugged in my GTX1060.

Making ~$9 a day now.

Been reading online as to how to get started, but the return in actually very difficult to calculate.

Thinking of a 4x1060s set up and then joining a pool (seems to be recommended?). How could I calculate the potential return on investment? Probably differs per coin but lets assume to the top preferred Alt coins..

I assume its not worth trying to mine bitcoin?

There is a patcher for the Windows 7 GPU card limit, busy mining with 6 card on Win7 so it def works. Also I think the limit is 5 card in Win 7. Let me see if I can find the link to the patcher.

Nvidia? Check the Performance profile under the Nvidia control panel.

Asseblief, this would be so helpful!!!

From ealier in the thread :

Definitely feels more stable on Win10. Haven't had one display driver crash yet. Temps everything looks the same, except my mentioned issue above where it looks like Win10 is throttling my GPU0...

I did check the power settings, all good there too...

EDIT : Think i found the culprit..nVidia Control Panel settings. See link :

I thought this was the issue, but this setting has improved it the problem, but not solved yet.

What cards? AMD, you need to Flash the Bios if you want more than 22MH.

Or you saying the 2 PCI express risers are limited to 22MH?

In that case, go to Mobo Bios and put it on Gen 2

PM me your email add, the link I found comes up with warning signs, cant remember if I used it or not, just
don't want to send you to a dodgy place. I've still got the patcher on my machine so I'll send it to you via dropbox. Small program less then 2mb. I used it for my AMD cards, so not sure if it will work with Nvidia, but I don't see why it wouldn't.

Cheers.

I believe this is a good estimate:

You won't mine bitcoin on anything but an ASIC at the moment if I'm not mistaken. PC based mining for Bitcoin has long flown.

4 x GTX 1070. The main display card does burst to 30MH occasionally, but I can see something is throttling the Watts to the card as it fluctuates heavily. I did not have this issue on Win7. Its either Win10 itself or the Win10 nVidia driver/software/bug.

Motherboard is currently set to Gen1 for Win10, was the same for Win7. I am using the board I got from GTX Gaming, with the riser card. Apparently it must be set to Gen1 for riser card to work. Will test Gen2 when I get home.

Link to MBD : http://gtxgaming.co.za/index.php?route=product/product&path=75&product_id=228

All in all, if the patcher works, I will revert to Win7.

Has anyone experienced claymore hanging for no apparent reason? Around 12:15 is just stopped, PC didn't reboot and I don't see anything related to a driver crash etc. I closed the window, started claymore again (without rebooting the machine) and its going on its merry way again

Thanks. Just the ASIC justify the investment?

Is that Nicehash calc correct? Says an average payback period of 71 days for a 1060? Thats pretty decent (I know it excludes the cost of PSU, Tower etc). But 4 x 1060 would then share that cost..

Nicehash is correct for current market conditions - difficulty, coin prices, etc

Understand. That was also based on Bitcoin, which would be difficult to mine. So Im not sure if that is achievable?

Would like to have to checked the return on a different coin, but the calculator does not allow that..

For others who have ordered from Bitmain (Antminers) - what was your experience?
Some interesting things that came up when I ordered:

1) You place the order at Bitmain before you get shipping costs. I ordered 2x L3+ and shipping was just over R2k with DHL.

2) You can pay in BTC or USD or LTC. I paid in USD and had to go into the bank to do a SWIFT transfer which takes 4-5 days to effect. Bitmain don't send an invoice - only an order note. The bank says they may actually need an invoice for import purposes (likely SARS) but will submit anyhow and see if it comes back. Bitmain reserve the right to cancel the order if payment is not received within 3 working days. I sent them the transfer for I handed in at the bank, hopefully that's enough to hold them off for a week.

3) The bank phoned me to ask if I had an import permit or if this is a 'once off'. I said it's a once off but it may turn into something bigger in which case i'll apply for an import permit.

Bitmain have 1600w power supplies for $100 but they're not available for sale at the moment - too much demand. It would likely be a separate order or I'll find a platinum PSU locally.
