Looking at the SMME special for my business and noticed that while it's optimised for business use, it's advertised as unshaped meaning no protocols are given priority over another, so I'm assuming the only actually "optimisation" is its restriction for use within business hours (7am-6am as per the F.A.Q), correct?
If so, it's essentially a day time account. If not, I'm assuming large after hours transfers (backups, updates, clones etc) are expected and allowed?
Does the account come with priority support in the event it's necessary?
Does this run on Telkom IPC or is it part of the FTTB pilot you have running?
We do run network controllers on our end to prioritise business bandwidth, however on this account all traffic is pretty much treated equally in terms of the account itself. We don't care what's being used for the data, however this is intended for business use only as part of our SMME development investment, and the only real way to monitor this is to look at time of day usage. The alternative is to log DPI which is illegal in SA and we have zero intention of doing so.
It does run over our IPC network. If you're interested in our fibre offerings, the sign up form for the SMME product allows you to submit your details for a free fibre feasibility as well.
I'd really suggest looking at the SMME product if you're CIPC registered. It's usually R4,50/GB, so it's a massive drop in pricing and is limited in terms of numbers we're prepared to adopt on this special.
