Crystal Web DSL performance feedback thread Part 4...

Has anyone had their line "DELETED" by telkom today?
Nope, But in all the attempts I've made to contact them, most of the technicians could not see the line at all!
The one that could see it was able to tell me that it was in process of being converted from ADSL to a normal line, hence the "pending" order on the line.
AFRIHOST did miracles and made magic and saved my line!

So date for reconnection has been set for Friday the 30th. I can't say I have been impressed by the level of service from Telkom as nobody can tell me why the ADSL service was cancelled in the first place. Cancelled everything with Evonet and CW and am going to contest the incoming 2 months debit orders as no sane person should be liable with the recent debacle.

Received confirmation from Telkom that my line has been converted from ADSL to normal line.... And all crystalweb support says sorry sir we dont have the capability to delete lines. Like they have no idea whats going on.

my line is still running. Im again not being charged for December, so Im going to just let it run until it goes down. Im over this **** now

Hey guys.

Just a word of warning don't ask Web Africa to sort out your line, they don't seem to be as switched on as the Afrihost guys and they will just order a completely new service instead of making any real effort to recover the existing line from the pool. Anyways I have asked them to cancel my order with them and signed up with Afrihost instead, hopefully, they haven't done any irrevocable damage to my account and Afrihost can still make a plan to recover the existing line. @AfriMan please check your PM's. I have sent you my details.

I hope everyone who is rescued by afrihost actually stays with them for a while and not just ditch them one month later.

Also I'm loving that afrihost has a working portal and usage graphs, something that CW has been working on since i joined them years ago.

I'm switching to Afrihost since they seem to be the only ISP on top of this and extending an olive branch. If they do manage to rescue my line, I will definitely stay with them until fibre is available in my area. I used to use them a long time ago and they were great, but when they switched to MTN I switched to another ISP. Now that they are back on IS I'm happy to give them my business back.

Hey guys.

Just an update @AfriMan has responded to my PM and assured me they will try their best to work out the tangled mess that is my ADSL account even with the added complication of the new service order Web Africa placed. Hopefully, they will be able to salvage things but even if it is too late to undo the damage at least I have found a new ISP that will be willing to go the extra mile when needed.

Firstly - wow, I feel bad for everyone affected here. This used to be a company I would gladly recommend to anyone interested.

When they couldn't get their youknowwhat together during the transition phase and subsequent DDoS issues, I made the good choice to switch.

Case in point - never let your ISP manage your line. The benefits do not outweigh this worst case scenario situation that has happened here. Telkom / Opensewer are bad, but they are the devil you know, and with enough preparation, easy to navigate around. Not having your line managed means being able to easily drop ISPs that dip into shenanigans. Learned this lesson with Syntech, Cybersmart, MWEB and Openweb (ugh). Evonet was just the latest in that list.

My advice, if it wasn't super obvious by now, gtfo while you still can. Best of luck in getting out of it with as little trouble to yourself as possible.

At last another person who agrees with me that transferring the ADSL line to your ISP is a bad idea!

Still no luck for me from Afrihost... @AfriMan what is happening?

The team are working with each client individually - there doesn't seem to be any single state that all lines are in. Some are suspended, some are converted back to phone lines, etc.

Has someone from our side been in touch with you?

Letting an ISP other than telkom manage your line works out better for me, when something goes wrong then they have all the power to see where the fault is, also port resets are simpler. Ive not checked again but the last time i was with Afrihost you could do your own port reset via the control panel if your line was managed by them.
