CSA respond to poor crowds

Actually you pay R50 to make sure that your car isn't sitting on bricks when you get back. It's BS. There should be dedicated, secure parking for the stadium for all ticketholders.

The grass are the cheap seats for a reason, and its not cause thats where the atmospheer is.

For the wanderers, they didn't put up parking lot for the 2003 world cup, the 2007 T20 world cup or even the IPL or Champions Trophy.

Doesnt look like a parking lot will happen at all.

Well alot of people that don't know the stadium, will buy pavilion seats as they know they'll at least have a seat. Then they pitch up and see hey, look it's not so full, we can sit right next to the cheer-leader girls and even get some signatures from the players standing right in front of me....and then they end up on the grass. The pavilion is a little "removed" from the action at times.

The grass isn't that bad, just bring your own chairs and it's better than the pavilion by far IF it's not overly crowded.

So i won't be surprised if people pay the few $ extra to ensure that if the game is "sold out completely" and totally crowded, they have their seats and at the same time if the game is not crowded they can go chill on the grass...


Either way, all the IPL matches i watched, the stadium was supposedly filled to capacity. The amusing part, the pavilion was EMPTY, even during the semi finals!

The grass and grandstand tickets are cheaper because you get a side-on view. Let's be honest, that's not the best view to be watch the cricket with because you don't see much of the action. There's a reason why the TV cameras film from behind the bowler :)

Keep in mind Centurion have grass embankments around the entire field, with the exception of the main pavilion section. Wanderers are totally different with stands all around and small grass patches on the side. So Centurion you actually DO get a good view from the grass, as you can pretty much sit "behind the bowler" opposite the main pavilion [to the left and right] etc etc.

I guess we have to consider the stadium designs here in this context.

Wanderers is always full when SA plays, its a better ground and I prefer it to Centurion. I park for free and very close to the ground but for the others I can understand their frustrations, some people park all the way down at Melrose Arch.

Centurion on the other hand is about 60% or more grass. I dont like grass. They also play saki saki music...:sick:

If they want crowds they should get better teams to play SA, India, Pakistan games will always be packed, same with Aus. NZ and England is touch and go.

But the crowds in CT and Durban should be full, they havent seen any cricket for a while now...

Oh and you cant smoke and watch the game, you not allowed to drink beer on the grass at Wanderers... that kinda sucks...
 
Yea it must be rather annoying going to the cricket and not being able to smoke for 8 hours, for the smokers anyhow :D.

Far better to grab some beers and watch it on tv and smoke like crazy.
 
The problem is not unique to cricket. Even rugby matches have been poorly attended. I think it is the fault of professionalism. They are trying to play as many games as possible to rake in the money. This has resulted in series coming and going and people not even being worried as they know there will be another one just around the corner.

Us mates used to wait in anticipation for the boxing day test match in Durbs. It is almost December and we have not even mentioned it yet.



PS Screw the smokers. Imagine sitting behind a smoker for 8 hours and a non smoker! The lazy, usually fat, unhealthy fuskers can take a walk behind the stands if they so desperately need a cigarette!
 
You don't think it has anything to do with people not having money? I mean we are blaming this and that but not everyone has cash these days.

Cost of living has sky rocketed.

RE fat, I did state usually. Smoking, drinking and the associated unhealthy eating usually seem to go together. I cannot imagine a tri-athlete being a heavy chain smoker!

RE unhealthy, yes! Ask any life insurance actuary about the average health of a smoker versus a non smoker.
 
Never knew fat people all smoked though :D

A bit of a generalization, smoking does not make you fat, strangely it has the opposite effect but anyhow you keep thinking every fat person smokes :D.

I accept your point on wanderers being a good ground, but if u checked the attendance at the odi and t20 against england it was half full only 16 odd thousand tickets sold in a 34k stadium.

Sunday's game at axxess St George's Park is a sell out. The place is going to buzz and I have scored a seat in the media box!
 
I'm also going ,but will be in the cheap seats ie on the grass.

When SA plays in PE the grounds are always packed as the people are cricket starved.
 
Please please please keep it away from Slummies - the sooner CSA sort out the Warriors/EP-Border mess the better.

Seriously, you guys should look at getting rid of that annoying band.
 
Went to Newlands today for the first time(I am new to Cape Town). It was nice but I definately will NOT be going again.

Reasons:
Tickets were R220, when you paying for more than 1 person it hurts.
Parking! had to pay R50 to park nearly a KM away :(
Had to moan to get my dSLR in.
Seats weren't numbered so I never new if I was in the right seat.


The food was as expensive as everywere else, can't complain there.
 
We normally park infront of someone elses house for free, not in their drive way though.
