Customs help

Friend emailed and phoned several times - surprisingly enough they actually did send an email reply after 2 weeks - confirming that the packages is indeed in Jhb and that it'll make it's way eventually.

After that things started to move.

Still nothing. Really disappointed, but nothing I can do. SauRoNZA mentioned it and I think it is obviously true. It depends from where the parcel came. It's not like the new long queues you find that only splits when you get to the till. Oh no, each "country of destination" has got it's own little queue.

It is either that or they do not know their ass from their elbow and please don't defend SAPO here.

Thursday will be 8 weeks since my parcel left the US through USPS Priority and still nothing.
*I ordered a parcel from Germany through normal eBay DHL - Parcel left Germany Mar 28th arrived in JHB on Apr 13th left customs Apr 23rd and had it in hand in Cape Town May 8th
*Roux ordered a parcel from Netherlands, normal DHL. his arrived 4 months later.
*I ordered a parcel from Taiwan $6 shipping fee- Parcel left Taiwan Apr 26th arrived in JHB on May 4th left customs May 9th and had it in hand in Cape Town May 18th

My point...Don't know how the system works. Wife ordered S8 covers on eBay, free shipping. Left Jun 24th I'll let you know when they are here.

My package finally arrived after 3 months. There was no tracking once it left the USA

I popped into the post office and it was there

Sorry to resurrect this -- did you ever get a slip? Local number?

I ordered a package from Amazon in Germany, which was eventually shipped out from China with 4PX. Had expected delivery of the 29th of September, yet the tracking number says it has arrived in the destination country, but customs (I emailed [email protected], got a reply after 1 day) says it hasn't received or scanned it yet.

I am expecting a parcel from USA,it was sent as a gift. Unfortunately this parcel is not registered, the sender could only provide me with a 22 digit long number he got from USPS. It was sent via first class USPS. It's in a big box, it's books, DVDs, a diamond ring and a cellphone. I'm so anxious about it, it's quite a high value parcel. How do I go about locating it's whereabouts, I have contacted my post office copious amounts of time but they have not received it. It's been 21 days since it's been sent. Please help me guys, how do I find this parcel.

You first need to track/trace with USPS.

Phone SAPO as well and ask them if that package entered the country.

Lastly, how the hell can you allow someone to post a diamond ring via local postal services. That's just stupid I'm sorry to say. Hope it's insured to the (true) value of the package, but customs also might nail you albeit you allowed a certain amount of gifts a year, there might be a limit on the value.

I thought it would be safe. It's my first time receiving anything from abroad. The sender didn't register the parcel, he just gave me a 22 digit reference number he got from USPS. He told me that it's insured to the value of $4k the parcel is worth much more than that

What a pity.

I travel at least twice a year to the States and my wife about four times, we would have gladly brought back the phone and ring for you.

21 Days is way too soon to start stressing. If it was not sent as "signed for priority mail" it can take up to 12 weeks.

I recently received a few items that were sent 4 to 5 months ago.

I'm just worried about the contents of this parcel. There are books, DVDs, a diamond ring, a phone and foreign currency in an envelope. I don't mind it taking forever but I'm worried they might steal the stuff inside. What are the odds that they will steal?
 
According to my experience, about 15%.

But you really shouldn't have put stuff like a ring and currency in a general parcel.

High value items and you guys save on shipping. Should've just used FedEx or DHL etc. I won't be surprised if your parcel is not found.

Yip they'll scan it and even read packing list and this parcel will disappear.

Hope the insurance claim will be efficient and they pay out but don't even count on that.
