Actually I got that line from herThat's not what yo mama said.![]()
I get you, I really do, I'd probably play online with rain too if I had no other means bud but I wouldn't go out of my way to exploit the network and therefore causing high ping/low speeds for others. Which I think is the main negative of over use. But as more people use this service I hope they upgrade their infrastructure so this doesn't happen otherwise you guys will suffer unfortunatelyThe mobile wifi thingy is mobile I did not fix it to my Xbox![]()
You "fixed" it to a plug unless you power it with a generator. The mobile wifi thingy is mobile I did not fix it to my Xbox![]()
So is Vodacom, MTN, Cell C and Telkom. Yet none of them stop me from using their product as I please. Mobile and fixed line is so dark ages. There's no difference to how services are integrated nowadays. Where is it advertised as mobile anyway? I don't even see it. You're just pussyfooting around the fact they have a cap after advertising uncapped. They are not though. It's advertised as a mobile service sold with dual sim phones and MiFi devices - not meant to be plugged into your home LTE router and abused. People are pussyfooting around the mobile part.
You'll be surprised how much data you can use outside a cave in this day and age.Who actually even needs to download/stream a tb a month, stocking up for winter or something?![]()
Then have them state the conditions upfront. If it's all you can eat up to two pizzas then don't inform the customer only after they want to order the third pizza.Fair usage policies are in place to do just as they say (ensure fair use) its like sharing a pizza. You paid your part for the pizza but so did Joe and Bob and Kurt, now you want to eat the whole pizzaNow you guys might say "I pay for it so I want it" but you need to remember you don't support the infrastructure on your own, you are a small part of it, so don't go crying when it get's taken away because they cant handle all the traffic and start loosing customers, and ultimately close down
All I'm saying is if I didn't have access to fibre/adsl and was presented with this offer I would not complain about a (not even so bad) fair use policy considering the price, want to use more data to support your whole family? buy another sim card

Abusers? Really, are we going to have these juvenile discussions every time there's some new tech calling people names because their usage does not match your own?If people continue to abuse the service I have no doubt they'll go that route, then watch the abusers be the first and loudest to complain. Also remember this is a month to month deal which is fantastic as consumer because we can cancel at any time, but Rain can also cancel or amend it at any time.
So far it's only a notification triggered when you use 1TB of data. Haven't seen any cap yet? The FUP has been posted countless times. Not my problem if you can't search. So is Vodacom, MTN, Cell C and Telkom. Yet none of them stop me from using their product as I please. Mobile and fixed line is so dark ages. He's convinced there's a hardcap at 1TB. I haven't heard of anyone who's been capped as yet"So is Vodacom, MTN, Cell C and Telkom. Yet none of them stop me from using their product as I please."
Okay go to one of your main providers and tell me how much you will be paying for an "uncapped" service, yes Cell C may have no fair usage policy but they do have in place an acceptable usage policy, so even they have a line. Vodacom does have a fair usage policy, as well as MTN, some reading material:

"Where is it advertised as mobile anyway?"
Its the first thing you see at the header when googling it...

And if you take the time to read the terms and conditions of the product you are buying:

"There's no difference to how services are integrated nowadays."
That's a broad statement, care to be more clear in your point?
"I don't even see it. You're just pussyfooting around the fact they have a cap after advertising uncapped."
Who said they have a cap? or even that they are throttled? I was personally saying that common curtesy goes a long way, why consume more than you need when you know it affects others? I'm glad not everyone is like you pal.
"You'll be surprised how much data you can use outside a cave in this day and age."
Ahhhh my favourite comment! Isn't it ironic, that in order to justify actually using that amount of data a month you would have to spend a lot of time at home...
"Then have them state the conditions upfront. If it's all you can eat up to two pizzas then don't inform the customer only after they want to order the third pizza."
I agree with you on this, they could be a bit more clear on there terms but so could every other service provider.
Do you believe every deal you see without reading the terms expecting all the information to be upfront and on the first page? That's bad for business why do you think fine print is fine? For your convenience?
"Abusers? Really, are we going to have these juvenile discussions every time there's some new tech calling people names because their usage does not match your own?"
Bro if the company sends you a message telling you that you are using too much data you are definitely not consuming an average amount that people would be consuming on their mobile phones as intended by the network therefore abusing the system making you an abuser. Your usage is of no concern to me bud, I was just arguing the point that a mobile network is intended for mobile use so you can't really complain when they send you a message saying your use is not normal.
That took a little while but it was because I was backspacing and trying to be as nice as possible![]()
Have a good evening!
Sorry for the caps!
CAPS!!!!
Don't feel sorry for yourself..If it makes the guys on the high horses sleep better tonight, I only used about 50mb on Rain today.
Mostly because Rain has been down the whole damn day.
I don't.Don't feel sorry for yourself..
How often is it down?I don't.
I have another sim card from Afrihost that I use between 6 and 11 (and when Rain is down) that connects on the Rain network. No problems at all.
It's probably just down because he's put a R250 spend limit. Those hours are outside of the uncapped off-peak time. How often is it down?
Nah, he just mentioned that he uses the afrihost sim during those hours in normal situation but he said it's been down the whole dayIt's probably just down because he's put a R250 spend limit. Those hours are outside of the uncapped off-peak time.
Hopefully they can sort their stuffs out
No it hasn't. It's only mentioned once you go over 1TB.So far it's only a notification triggered when you use 1TB of data. Haven't seen any cap yet? The FUP has been posted countless times. Not my problem if you can't search.
Sorry but that doesn't mean what you think it does. They've never stopped anyone from using what they paid for and never will."So is Vodacom, MTN, Cell C and Telkom. Yet none of them stop me from using their product as I please."

Sorry but I don't use google for that. I can't find the term "mobile data-only" anywhere that page. This tactic is known as bait and switch. Its the first thing you see at the header when googling it...

It's quite simple. Fixed no longer means you can only connect with your pc. Mobile is no longer the case you only use it on the move as people the world over are increasing using it for fixed line replacement. There's no longer distinguishing between providers and mobile simply means you can move it around rather than fixed to a point. Rain seems to actually agree by selling LTE routers you can connect devices to.That's a broad statement, care to be more clear in your point?
Why assume these people are using more than what they need to? That's a relatively term. And it would do you well to read my position in this thread before making a judgment about me, PAL!Who said they have a cap? or even that they are throttled? I was personally saying that common curtesy goes a long way, why consume more than you need when you know it affects others? I'm glad not everyone is like you pal.
We can't say what would justify using that amount of data. That's the whole point, everyone's circumstances are different. It's no longer the world of granny checking her email and browsing her banking with 2GB being "enough".Ahhhh my favourite comment! Isn't it ironic, that in order to justify actually using that amount of data a month you would have to spend a lot of time at home...
The issue is that no other service provider is being so secretive on major conditions. The last one that was was Mweb. Telkom states clearly their service is 150GB softcap. Rain states it nowhere and only informs you once you exceed it.I agree with you on this, they could be a bit more clear on there terms but so could every other service provider.

It's juvenile that we have this discussion about abusers every time something comes along and people use it in a way others don't expect it to be used or in ways that are different to their own. It happened with dsl when people were using 400GB and now most people accept that to be standard usage. It's happening with mobile again now.Bro if the company sends you a message telling you that you are using too much data you are definitely not consuming an average amount that people would be consuming on their mobile phones as intended by the network therefore abusing the system making you an abuser. And the question still is what is "bona fide mobile use"? I put my Cell C sim in my E5577 and THAT is mobile use. I mine on it and connect with my tablet. I browse on my pc and if I feel like doing a GOG download I do so. So what makes Rain special that mobile is defined differently?
The only difference here is how some people seem to see that as abuse. If they have a specific purpose in mind then have them state that upfront instead of being obtuse about it and having no definitions. Or is they base it on some expected usage then have them state that.
Where have I stated that? I haven't.
Suffering from some amnesia? No it hasn't. It's only mentioned once you go over 1TB.

I never claimed it was a cut-off. So you're either imagining things or don't know there are different caps.
