data usage policy on RAIN

They are not though. It's advertised as a mobile service sold with dual sim phones and MiFi devices - not meant to be plugged into your home LTE router and abused. People are pussyfooting around the mobile part.
Where is mobile defined? Who made you the king of deciding what mobile is?

I'm sorry but this is just ridiculous.

A phone / tablet / laptop are mobile. You can pick them up and move them around conveniently, they have batteries so that you can use them on the go.

A 4K TV and an X-box are not mobile. They are not meant to be used on the go. Stop trying to justify inconsiderate usage of a resource.

Who actually even needs to download/stream a tb a month, stocking up for winter or something? :D

so now mobile has somehow became a word to describe usage. LOL!

why use words like uncapped or unlimited then

On their website?
Does rain have a Fair Usage Policy (FUP)?
rain’s product is designed for bona fide mobile use. The network is a shared resource, therefore, rain reserves the right to manage users who may be using the product for its unintended purposes as well as users who are impacting the performance of the network and other users of. Please refer to the terms and conditions for further information on our usage policy.

I normally have to have a definite interest, watched gameplay etc before deciding I want to try a game and I have uncapped 50mb fibre so it's not out of necessity, but each to their own I guess

Fair usage policies are in place to do just as they say (ensure fair use) its like sharing a pizza. You paid your part for the pizza but so did Joe and Bob and Kurt, now you want to eat the whole pizza :D Now you guys might say "I pay for it so I want it" but you need to remember you don't support the infrastructure on your own, you are a small part of it, so don't go crying when it get's taken away because they cant handle all the traffic and start loosing customers, and ultimately close down :D All I'm saying is if I didn't have access to fibre/adsl and was presented with this offer I would not complain about a (not even so bad) fair use policy considering the price, want to use more data to support your whole family? buy another sim card :D

i like to try for myself. i dont have to worry about doing research first anymore.

This ^

The moment you help me pay for the subscription, then you get a say in how I use it. If not, mind your fcuking business. It is advertised as unlimited/uncapped. In this day an age of streaming and massive game downloads it is entirely possible to easily do 1TB if your speeds allow it.

You one delusional ignoramus.

Well my dashboard does say Enjoy Unlimited free data on us until 25/01 and not Please consider to use our free data for only the most basic of necessities. For me that means free-for-all buffet until they physically come switch off my router  ! My normal usage shouldn't be more than 100GB per month though. Not sure how much Netflix will consume once I cancel my DSTV for good...

Correct. Thereafter it's R50 per GB or R250 for unlimited MOBILE data. Hooking up half your neighbourhood is kind of missing the point of the product.

They should just soft cap at certain levels e.g. halve the speed as soon as you hit certain criteria, that should stop the savages

If people continue to abuse the service I have no doubt they'll go that route, then watch the abusers be the first and loudest to complain. Also remember this is a month to month deal which is fantastic as consumer because we can cancel at any time, but Rain can also cancel or amend it at any time.

Abusers is such a foul word, rather call us Premium Consumers and blame it on the Xbox Game pass R15 deal
It's kind of in the heading of their website "SA's mobile data only network" then if you're using it for your Xbox then you are abusing the service my good sir. Not that I care what you do :D just have to be politically correct these days mate, you're abusing a service that is intended for mobile use.
