Then how the F do you receive 3G/LTe speeds if you're throttled to 256Kbps from the word go?

Speedtests were literally the first thing i did.
Then tried to stream media to see if its being blocked :p

Another point which is bad for me is that I need VPN access. Which I also cant do on this connection.
I didn't see anything on their site saying that it is blocked?

Please run another speed test for us On Mybroadband Speedtest.. In general how's the browsing.

It is mentioned on their website that no VPN connection will be allowed.. Are you able to use mibbit

Restrictions on Sim Card
  • Porn websites and malicious sites are blocked by the network. If a customer finds a site that's blocked and it is not a malicious, porn or streaming site we will unblock it. User can send us an email to support@datasim.co.za, we will check the site and have it unblocked.
  • Users are not able to download movies, music, malicious content.
  • You Tube and streaming sites are blocked.
  • Users are able to access blocked content using the WIFI provided.

Here are the tests on LTE USB modem (L100V)

Things to take note of:
  • Takes me about 3-3.5min to do a single speed test.
  • I can't do speedtests to mybroadband. Blocked by the firewall.
  • Browsing is painful.
  • Something funny I noticed as well: I think the guy used himself as a reference on the site.
  • Speeds are pretty much limited to 256k
  • I cannot get this sim to go to LTE on any device (I fall well within the LTE coverage map)
  • Edit: Mibbit works.


Falls very short of expectations.

Useless service I will Pass.

Did they load the R300 airtime. See if you can transfer it to another telkom mobile user.

Yes I got it. I will try. Think someone will buy it off me for the R220 I paid for this month?

Right, I just spoke to Saeed Moosa. He informed me that they are throttling the simcards at 256kbps. I informed him I will be submitting a complaint to ASASA. He said "That is fine, thank you".

I urge all of you to complain about them at http://www.asasa.org.za

They are scam artists.

We didn't expect Coca Cola to rain from the skies, but atleast 3G/LTE speeds for a few GB's before being throttled, not from the start.

There is no mention on their site - that I can see - regarding any speed guarantees (3g, LTE or otherwise).
