DataSIM: one voice contract and Data SIM Cards that share a Contract Data Bundle

Thanks for the explanation Louis. So I can assume this is not going to happen in my life time. I think I'm just going to get a Cell C sim for my modem. It is going to cost me R999 but atleast I will have a solution.

Yes not sure when/if it wil happen. Good luck

Top Up always gets the short end of the stick even though it was introduced as having the advantages of both prepaid and contract (but they forgot to mention that you get saddled with the disadvantages as well).

iPhone + iPad Data Sharing

Hi All

I have a vodacom iPhone contract, + I buy a data bundle every month, I want to know if I can share this bundle between my iPhone and iPad - i.e. buy another sim card from VC and simultaneously access the data.

I have a twin sim option at the moment, the problem with this is, one device must be off for the other to work.

I dont want voice on the iPad - just data..

You want DataSIM not twin sim. You can now have up to 5 SIMs on one contract since the most recent changes.

Duplicate micro sim for 3G router

I have a data bundle (2+2gb) for my iPad which is working great. Now I wish to use the same account/sim data bundle on my wifi 3G router. My initial thoughts are that I would have 2 sim cards liked to one account. This would allow for my iPad to work as is with existing micosim and the router to use a replicated standard sim off the same data bundle. Naturally only one of the sims can be on at a time, just like with a car phone setup.

Vodacom has informed me this is not possible due to this function not being available yet for data. Now this is interesting as it works perfect with my handset and car phone for voice.

So my question to the forum is can this be done, can I get the micro sim duplicated somewhere and where if possible?

They should be able to issue you with a new sim on the same account and allocate the data to that. I'm fairly positive on this... could be wrong.

Looks like the 2+2 promo. DataSIM is available AFAIK?

Sounds like they got confused with Twin-SIM which probably is not available on the 2+2?

oc confirmed that it is, but some shops still don't know what DataSIM is and others are unaware of the recent changes to the product.

Dual Sim for Data Contract

Hi

Is it possible to get a dual (2 sim cards) activated to use on 2 different devices, eg iPad and usb modem.

Cheers

Dual sim query

Is it possible to use a dual sim with a 3g contract? Basically i want to use a standard size sim for the usb modem and use a microsim for my ipad. Obviously i wont want to use both together, the ipad 3g is for the road.

Thanks.

Get yourself a 4U Contract (check the Vodacom Website, it carries a monthly payment of R0.00), get a microsim as a datasim connected to this contract at R10 per month. Load data bundles and use on both. Stay away from Data contracts. In this way you will always have a maximum commitment of 1 month.

Get something called a "Data SIM". Will allow you to use both the modem and iPAD at the same time, eating the same data bundle.

Yes you can, I activated exactly that last week. I have a VC voice contract and loaded a month to month Mymeg 500 data bundle to that contract. On the "advanced" bundles the OOB rates equal the in bundle rates.

I then added a data microsim for my ipad and two normal data sims for a netbook and my mother's laptop - all running from the same data bundle. You can do up to five sims that way. And they can be used simultaneosly.

It's a very good solution for multiple devices.

OK, I now have Twin call. I use an iPhone at home and the BB at work. I put the new sim in the BB and after twincall was activated, there is no BIS on the new sim. The lady at VC said they can't activate BIS on the second sim it is only on the master sim.

Problem is the master SIM is now a microsim in the iPhone and the 2nd sim is the larger sim in the BB so I can't just swop the sim cards.

Must I go and get sim swap now so that the 2nd sim is a microsim for the iPhone. The master sim I can use with an adaptor in the BB.

Any help here?
Thanks

Maybe ocleroux can comment, but I suspect SIM swap is going to be the only way to solve this.

Hmmm... sim swap it is seeing as I've 'trimmed' the 2nd card to fit the iPhone and now it won't recognise it. The chip part of the normal sims are larger than what they were so be careful when trimming the newer sims.

I also tried the SIM trimming thing once and it didn't work out.
