DataSIM: one voice contract and Data SIM Cards that share a Contract Data Bundle

You have completely missed the point of both TwinCall and DataSim - which both allow for more than one SIM on the same contract and sharing the same data bundle at a lower in bundle rate than smaller separate data bundles.

Nah, I completely understand the twincall and data sim. for me, all I want is 2 sims, 1 for phone, and 1 for data card. (without paying subscription) Thus no need for swapping everytime.
So I was just suggesting this for the ppl that may do the same.

Maybe for blackberry the datasim will be fine. and fro car phone the twincall.

Note you can have both twinned sims connected at the same time on data connections.

the problem with this it that your incoming phone calls and sms's go to the sim card booted last - eg: you phone no longer operates once you plug in your data card. You then have to reboot your phone to receive calls. It sucks :(

There was an 'undocumented feature' that allowed twinsim-like capabilities on data sims.

On voice sims, the last sim that connects to the network will take the call, but with data both could work. This was never really intended to be the correct way of doing this and Data Sim is supposed to be the answer.

bio, I suspect that's why AutoPage is a bit confused, they probably don't know about it. I think we did it directly for you the last time? Will pick it up with you on your mail.

The detail please

What is the easiest way to get two sims to pull off the same 2gb databundle at the same time?

V3G - please give detail and the secret words that I can use at the Vodashop.

PS - searched vodacom.co.za for datasim and twinsim and no documents found.

R97 + R 99 upfront

Is the twincall not the better option for joint usage of a data bundle as it avoids the R 9 per month and the R 196 upfront charges?

With twincall on Vodacom only one of the sims can be on at any time, with data sim both can be on at the same time.

With twincall your calls are diverted to the number that is on, with datasim your voice calls will not be diverted to your datasim.

The MTN Dual sim is the combination of the two, both can be on at the same time, and when a calls comes in, it first ring on primary number and after about 8 rings the secondary sim starts ringing before going to voicemail. Both share minutes and databundles and MTN is not charging extra for this service.

It therefor looks like MTN again have the better solution.

Is international roaming enabled on the Vodacom data sim if roaming is enabled on your main sim card?

I had a problem the other day when my dual sim did not roam but the main one did. very disappointing.

With Twincall both sims can be on at the same time when used for data only.

Twin call - can I skip upfront costs

By asking shop to link prepaid sim to my contract bundle?

Ah well, it's been a few weeks and I still do NOT have a twinned sim. Sulk. V3G, you still on this forum? No replies to my emails ...

Ok, it's been five weeks now. Needless to say I am getting pretty frustrated.

Ok, just got of the phone with engineering. Here's the lowdown....

Firstly some technical stuff.

If you have more than one sim on the same account, only one can be active on the system at any given point in time. The last SIM that activates, will take control, disabling he first one.

Within the above constraints, TwinCall was developed, where you can have 2 SIMs on the same voice contract but only the last SIM will be active. If you turn both SIMS on, you get unpredictable results with SIMs turning on and off, seemingly randomly (as they re-acquire the network).

This worked fine for the intended application, for example having one mobile and one car phone with only one active at a time.

The same concept applies to data SIMs, only one can be active at the same time.

TwinCall on Data-only contracts was never (and still is not) a product you can buy over the counter. There was a technical anomaly in the systems that allowed data sims to work at the same time, but still with unpredictable results.

The answer was to take two or three sims but link them at billing level, not at network level. Now you can have two sims that allows you to share a bundle. This is called MultiSIM and is charged at a extra R9 per SIM.

Using MultiSIM is actually a bit of a jippo as the intended application was to have a phone and a datacard on the same contract.

So, you're not going to get any joy asking a retail shop for twincall on a data contract, they don't have it as a product.

I guess you could get a voice contract (4U?), get a twinsim on it and then strap a bundle to it.

Does the "data sim" also cost R9 per month as the "Multisim?" I have not seen the Multisim on the services list on Vodacom4me, only data sim.

Why I'm asking is that my friend requested a "data sim" from Vodacom SP. He pays R9 per month. I am using the data sim and he is using his original sim. We have no connection problems, i.e. both sims active all the time and both sims can make data connections at the same time. Also our data usage is coming off the same bundle.

Same thing, my bad. I know it as MultiSim, the original internal name. But it was launched as DataSIM.

@ vodacom3g

Could you please tell me if this is possible...... if so how / which packages

2 x USB 3g modems pulling data from 1 data account?

Thanks
