Depression.

Thanks for sharing. I have been on antidepressants since 2003. I am taking Cilift. It doesn"t "cure" but makes you cope better

hi guys ,Please advise I think I might have some anxiety disorder.Someone suggested I try Betablockers. My question is do I go to my normal GP for the prescription or I need to find a clinical psycholigist?

Try Gaba or L-Theanine

You dont need a prescription and it's very cheap

Go to dischem

Wish depression was "curable" like other diseases. The way people treat you at work is the worst part.

Good luck to all of you suffering from this. You are unique and deserve your own kind of happiness. :)

Depression isn't curable by modern medicine because it doesn't address the causes.

Listened to a fascinating podcast the other day by Dr Walsh. He believes he has found out why SSRIs are not affective in a percentage of the population.

Psychiatry has made impressive advances in the past 50 years, but needs a new direction. Today's emphasis on drug medications will not stand the test of time. Drugs have helped millions of people with depression and other mental disorders but benefits usually are partial in nature and involve unpleasant or intolerable side effects. Medication therapy is more art than science, and involves a considerable amount of trial-and-error. A fundamental limitation is that psychiatric drugs are foreign molecules that result in an abnormal condition rather than producing normalcy. It is unlikely that future psychiatric drugs will ever be universally effective or free of side effects. A new approach is needed . . .

So I'm back...

Currently my Psychiatrist laid it out like this:

The mood stabilizer I'm taking is making me depressed, I checked it online, it does.
I have to take it, it's one of the very few that actually do anything to keep me inline. Other meds don't do anything to me, it's like I'm drinking smarties or something.

I'm on Wellbutrin as of last week, so it's been about 2 weeks now. No side effects, except dreaming. I haven't had dreams I could remember since 10 years ago.
I'm on a ton of other meds as well, but not going to expand on that now.

I still feel depressed, but I feel "better". Less suicidal and a bit better generally. So I believe we have a win.

I quit alcohol for a few months completely as I got back onto antidepressants. I had my first beer about 2 weeks ago.

I am feeling really depressed today, suicidal and the whole jam that I always struggle with. Now I'm not sure if it's because of the alcohol I had while watching Rugby yesterday, or the emotional crap I always deal with this time of year.

Does alcohol make anyone else depressed?

Yep. That's how alcoholism works.

I don't suffer from depression.

If I drink a lot, the next day or two, my emotions will be completely screwed. Like I can't concentrate on anything because I just feel this profound emptyness and self-loathing.

Yes, alcohol will have a big impact on your emotions/brain chemistry. Well it does on mine.

Bear in mind that this is after drinking quite a bit; eg not one or two beers.

drugs & alcohol which are commonly used by people suffering depression, they (the alcohol & drugs) always seem fine at the time.
it's after the effects of the chosen substance have worn off that the depression often kicks in again.

i'm not speaking from any "pious" level - hell in my wild misspent youth i had tried almost every drug known to mankind, with the exception of opium (for lack of availability), i can think of about 10 that i have tried / used.
in every instance, they alter one's mindset & thinking at the time, but as i said, when they wear off, things go back to normal - sometimes worse (commonly referred to those who take, or have taken drugs - as a "come down").

essentially, i guess what i am saying, if it doesn't work for you, dont use it
