Depression.

Been on Zytomil (10mg) for the past week and half. Really hope the nausea goes away. And the yawning. Otherwise it's good so far. I feel like I can just get over stuff. It's honestly quite weird. I can just let go. I still get anxious. I still need coaching. But this is quite an improvement for me.

My doc switched me to Zytomil from Wellbutrin. I cant say I have had any nausea. At least I think it is Zytomil. Will double check when I get home. The Wellbutrin was just not affordable ... especially when my dosage was doubled. I am now paying about 80% less than I would have for the Wellbutrin per month.

Can't you get your depression added to the chronic list with your medical aid?

I've just been thinking that the internet seems to attract depressed people.

Judging by all the uncalled for hostility and name calling, it must be a release of some sort.

Some psychiatrists cheat and put you down for bipolar - which forces the medical aid to cover. (It's one of the arguments against PMBs)

This is very true, and even more concerning because antidepressants don't have much place in the management of bipolar disorder.

Bipolar is covered under the 25 CDL's on all medical schemes, so medications must be paid for (according to the scheme's formulary).
Unipolar Major Depressive Disorder on the other hand is only covered for 21 days inpatient care, or 15 outpatient consultations per annum. Medication is paid for out of pocket / savings in most cases.

I know some of the higher tier Discovery packages offer cover for MDD (and others e.g. panic disorder, PTSD, social anxiety, OCD) as an additional chronic disease, but those packages are R5k(+)/month....

More like 3k-4k/m if you are single - but yes, quite expensive. I'm currently on Classic Comprehensive as I value my health more than anything, but I know it's way too costly for someone with my limited amount of medical needs.

Not sure if this has been mentioned in the thread or not, but I heard doing Gym helps with mental health, I certainly will be starting gym next year.

What can I say....I am a postwhore (method would just say whore ... but that is another story)

What can I do .... they dont have a pill or a vaccine yet. /sigh
Bob Martin had a pill for that ... ha ha.

Eating healthy, healthy exercise etc all help but exercise can also give you lows the day or 2 afterwards especially if you overdo things. You can also get addicted to the endorphins. But a healthy lifestyle is always a good idea.

A week ago I halved the dose of my SSRI.

Miraculous side-effect: I enjoy music again. It's more than background noise now - The right song can induce skin-tingling. Man...

I wish to get off the drugs. It's going to take time, and I will need to be careful, but the dulling is something I've had enough of.

What are the physical and mental effects of getting off the meds?

What are the physical and mental effects of getting off the meds?

It depends on a variety of factors, but in the main... If you cold-turkey them (which I have done before) it's extraordinarily unpleasant - Brain zaps being one of the stranger consequences. Physically, you just feel, well, really ****. This whole process should be over in about a month or so.

If you do it carefully (tapering the dose down), then the effects of stopping can be essentially negated, aside from the obvious problem (in both cases) that the depression is likely to come smashing back, which is what happened to me several times when I stopped previously.

But still, I don't wish to require what are tremendously powerful psychiatric medications for the rest of my days. I'll find a way to get these pills behind me...

Thank you for explanation in detail. A month is too long to be having continuous brain zaps. You are brave coming off the meds, even gradually. Hopefully the improvement will be permanent and you can enjoy life SSRI free. Wouldn't that be awesome.

How strong a dose were you on Copa? Must have been quite hefty for you to feel a dulling. Cipralex 10mg and I don't feel anything.

On to other ideas - cannabis oil? Or doesn't that help for chronic depression?
