Diablo 3 - Builds thread

Its really very sad that the AH is the only way to progress in the game. I was playing my level 41Wizard on Nightmare act2, and for the first time i couldnt kill those gold dwarf things that drop the nice loot. Simply not enough DPS. I also couldnt kill certain elites anymore. I had farmed quite a lot and the best one handed wand did around 70dps. On the AH i found one that did 120dps for like 30 000 gold. So I sadly had to make the choice to use the AH. It has made a big difference.

Very sad!!

Monk lvl 19

Haven't used the AH yet and I'm avoiding multi until I run through the game at least on normal.

Strange that you can actually craft "rare" items ( the gold yellow ). Are grey items still the socketed type? Have seen them but am concentrating more on picking up either gold or magic.

You can craft yellow items, just need to upgrade the Artisan a bit. Problem is you spend a lot of resources on an item which has random attributes. AH you know what you getting

Level 60 Wizard Currently in act 2 Inferno
29k hp
21k dps
3.2k armor
+7% Movement Speed ( Important )

fairly easy to farm act 1 butcher runs, and getting along nicely in act 2 inferno, although teleport, frozen, jailer, vortex is a pain.

v3ngful#2949

edit: if anyone needs help, im more than willing if im online :) gimme a yell. mainly farming the AH atm and act 1 butcher + act 2 rares in the desert for gear.

I'm in +- the same boat. I think we can even add a few more of those elite types. Its all about the mix of modifiers and its very very annoying as I'm someone who likes to clear everything and kill every single thing.
One can only die so many times before you need a repair and then come back to full HP mobs again. Kiting forever is also not the most fun, but man when I go into the dungeon and one of those packs wait for me around the 1st corner with no space to kite it just grinds my gears :(

Yes I can skip them, but I don't like to do that in games.

Farm Hell Act 3/4 for gold to buy items on the AH yes :) Because you are not going to get any items from there that will be worth anything for Inferno.

I ran a 4 man group (2 barbs, me + WD) at Act 4 starting at the Spire lvl1 through to Diablo, picked up a 65dex, 85 int 100vit, 60 resist all belt ;)

It basically works this way. You need the good items from Inferno Act II to do Act I, the good items from Act III to do Act II etc.
AH is the only way

Everything is stupidly over priced in AH for monks... and i'm enjoying the Hell farming runs, progressing slowly into Inferno every now and then :)

Nice drop there. 1 in a million :p thou you need far better for that monk :p

Yes that AH can be insanely overpriced when it comes to the items you really need. You can go set a gold limit on the search of say 50k or 100k but you will just be wasting gold and you'll be very lucky to get a really decent item for inferno.

What I find completely laughable from a developer perspective is that you can buy square gems for 200 gold or so on the AH. If you had to combine gems that you picked up it would cost probably 10k+ in terms of artisan cost to get a gem that quality

Tell me about it :( stopped my Monk at level 50 to spend some time with other chars to farm for gold. Guess it is because two of the more popular classes Monk and DH uses similar gear that it is so stupidly over priced. My barb were really cheap to kit out.

Seen that as well, but it is mostly a question of over supply on the lower gem types... A lot more people on the lower difficulties flooding the market with the gems they picked up. Don't know yet what the gems dropping in Inferno is, but I guess it is still only up to a defined level, after that you have to combine gems.
But I have to agree I really hate the crafting fees attached to gems and gear... This feels just like a gold sink, and does not make it worthwhile to craft and try to sell on the AH, as gear there is cheaper than the craft costs.

How is it the developers fault that users are flooding the market with cheap gems?

How is it their fault? Blizzard didnt think of this issue. The more players who come online, the cheaper it will get. Then the gem combiner aspect in the game may as well be removed with a patch

As you progress, those gems just drop.... I've got stacks of each of the squares. Starting to find the odd flawless drop now.
As for set items, no, still haven't had one drop, but judging by the AH, some have been lucky enough to see them.

Can anyone confirm/deny that set items only start dropping from lvl 60? And more likely in Inferno? I can't seem to find any consistency around this.

On topic though, I'm now I think lvl 57.

HP: 23K
Dodge: 15%
Armour: 4K
Dmg: 4.1K
Avg Resist: 13%

One drop can make a lot of difference. My friend picked up a real good 2h sword (~340 dps) which he kindly gave to me. After some reluctancy to use it, I hit a mob in Act 2 Hell that wouldn't go down. Equipped that and it was ok again. Fortunately I picked up a 2h mace that outdid the sword a mob-or-two later so I didn't feel so bad.

What really saves me though is using Wrath of the Beserker with Insanity rune and Hammer of the Ancients. I crit a lot more and hit for 50K. Normal swings with Frenzy crit for ~20K. The other benefit of WotB is that you can't be held or frozen. That includes a certain end-boss' ability.

I face a dilemma now though. My passives may need to change. I'm using the 2 that add armour (25% and 100% based off Vit) and the increased crit chance and dmg. I need to swap one out for the one that reduces any non-physical dmg (@#&$^@#* arcane enchanted mobs) and have no idea which I could drop...

Again, how is it the developers fault that people are selling gems for less than the cost to make them?? So if I get the ultimate sword of doom that does 10k dps and then sell it for 1 gold, is Blizzard to blame for that as well?
And of course lower tier gems will be cheaper, because they actually drop. Higher tier gems do not drop, and so should be priced according to what it takes to craft them. But some people seem to like losing gold when selling their gems

I think all melee dudes are facing that dilemma :p Arcane mobs are just @#^@$%
So far with my monk I've just done the good ol hit n run strat, with a blind when there are no orbs around. Gives you a little window to lay down some pain. And then you run again :/ With no stun tye spell, you will suffer. But there must be another way to deal with them...

Tell me about it.... I felt like I was at a rock concert with laser lighting with the last Arcane mob I faced. I'm trying to redo my build a little as well, but need lvl 59. I can't get rid of my War Cry with Invigorate (life regen) until I can get something like Furious Charge's last rune which regens I think 5% of total life for every enemy hit. I REALLY want to try out Revenge but need to seriously evaluate how often the proc hits (there is a rune that increases the 15% chance to 30%, but you still need to take hits for it to have that chance). Oh well.... Change is as good as a holiday they say...

agreed, although mortar i actually REALLY like :P its easy to avoid, and gives you some free casting time. fast i guess is the only other afix that gets on my nerves.

I ran into a Nightmarish, Plagued, Vampiric, Teleporter (only 2nd Elite I've seen with 4 affixes) a few nights ago. If I didn't do severe damage when I crit, there would've been no way in Hell (haha) that they would've died...

Played around with my build last night

Left: Fists of Thunder (Thunderclap)
Right: Blinding Flash (Searing Light)
1: Inner Sanctuary (Safe Haven)
2: Breath of Heaven (Blazing Wrath)
3: Serenity (Peaceful Repose)
4: Mantra of Conviction (Overawe)

Passives; Guardian's Path, Seize the Initiative, One With Everything

With 615 mh 530 oh, my dps is 13k on the char sheet unbuffed - Breath of Heavens takes it up to 16k, other stats are

45% dodge (1450 dex + Guardian's Path)
4.8k armor ~ 60% damage reduction (grabbed the enchantress with her +15% armor buff, +15% damage aoe and knockback)
303 Resist All (50% iirc)
32k hp

To the other monks in this thread, lets discuss the best Monk spirit generator

Options I fiddled with are;

Deadly Reach (Foresight) ~3k dps increase but felt too slow against mobs
Crippling Wave (Breaking Wave) ~too much aoe, not great on single target
Way of the Hundred Fists (Blazing Fists) ~my crit chance is 5% so this doesn't proc often

My skills are low spirit cost, so spamming Conviction when necessary works nicely for the extra +24% damage

I haven't started inferno yet, mostly helping out friends to level from ~52 to 60 for now, so picking up gold atleast along the way doing it.

Weapons:
MH: 700.4
OH: 487.9
Chart DPS: 9748

30% dodge (1000 dex)
2.9k armor
87 Resist All
35k hp

I haven't farmed any gear at 60 yet, no inferno yet, no crafting yet, bought like only 1 item since being 60, but other than that, now farming gold while helping friends level.
