DigiChilli January Status and feedback

Whats the speeds on the news servers at now? Anyone using astra web with a 384k line?

most of the time DC delivers nicely, speed, browsing etc. Its basically only torrents that remains a problem constantly. the rest comes and goes.

I think it varies from user to user... I signed up 5 days ago and have cumulatively used DC for about 3 hours and all I do is browse. No torrents, no big http downloads.

1) There are still 4meg lines on spicy and medium, that is not capped at 384 line speed...
2) Their providers does not give them a stable feed
3) The shaper that they are using is not not working properly.

That brings me to some of the other problems I have with Digichilli:

1) They have disclosed a users usage info...
2) Have made a personal attack to some users.
3) Limited/ Blocked users without informing them prior to action taken
4) Some of the prior to launch explanations regarding burst and concurrent connections has proved to be contrary to actual observations and official emails / pm's
5) It has taken them more than a month, and still no stable service
6) Their "shaping" is no better than any other shaped service out there!

You are correct with everything you said. I paid for January because i saw massive improvement in the network. I'm still far from happy, but i'm willing to stick with it. If by the end of January/February the network hasn't improved further i'll be jumping ship.

Quite a few changes will be happening in the market over the next few months (e.g. webafrica, even digichilli itself), and so i really don't want to have to move my line over to someone other than telkom.

I'll give it a short while, if things are still dodgy then i'll gladly move my line over to cybersmart, especially since their upcoming "incentive" product will be so good.

I have two lines at two different houses, so the digichilli mild account is great value for money. It just needs to become more stable.

Its was a bad couple of days. During the last part of Dec they were flying. Also this morning things were working well. Sure they will sort this issue out soon then you can re-asses their service.

Still hav't cancelled my account with chilly as I like it hot. Will be watching till the end of the month with ineterest

where did they do that?

Straatkat is the only one going on about that. Necromancer was moaning over a fairly long period of time, and so Dave pointed out to necro that he was on a free account and he had done over 50 gigs.

Mountain out of a mole hill i would say.

o is that what they on about... no problem there

I am going to be honest...

I gave up on DC, I am now with SAOL Uncapped. I will gladly change back to DC once the problems are gone but until then my ISP will be SAOL.

I need the Internet and I cant handle paying for something that breaks 24/7...

In the end, there seemed more people with blind faith in this thread, than happy users...and that my fellow ADSL users, is the nr1 problem with ADSL in this country...How long have we talk about faster lines, and double line rental and caps? How many times have rumours circulated...

You definitely make some good points, but as one of those more-blind-faith-than-happy users I have to say if you jump ship on everything that didn't work perfectly right out of the box... where would you live? Probably not on this planet. Most definitely not in SA.

I get that just because something is common doesn't make it right. You should get what you paid for. Of course. But this is something new... give the guys involved a little more slack, they're probably working just as hard as you would to sort it out.

Trust me, the amusement factor of having to switch accounts every 5 minutes has long since worn off, but I will remain optimistically south african a little while longer :D

That is all fine and dandy, for someday. In the mean time you must have the bandwidth to feed your clientèle to your acceptable quality of service levels, which they are proclaiming to be at 256kbps... which is not happening...

So, if you can't provide that, then you don't have enough bandwidth to begin with.

...

Brilliant post!!! The sad part is, as the free trial accounts start disappearing and all the realistic users cancel, these threads will start only containing the blind praises which will lead to new users falling into the same trap.

My experience with Digichilli has been up and down, mostly down...

1. It's useless for any form of gaming, including local servers.
2. Single thread downloads never come close to the avertised minimum speed.
3. Torrents are dead in the water.
4. PSN is a no-go. (Probably because PSN uses HTTPS)
5. HTTPS browsing dies because SSL news server downloads gets classified in the same pool and end up grabbing all bandwidth.
6. GTalk almost never works. (I suspect the SSL problem here as well)
7. Skype is stuttery at best.

Thos post is starting to look like screamer when i started looking for an uncapped provider

I said it before and i will say it again ..

From the DC site: “This is a managed service, with business protocols taking priority. Network conditions will determine the speed of P2P* and torrents.”

So can we really complain about the gaming, torrents, p2p ..

It states that business will take preference. After hour torrents and p2p is (*just as bad*) the same as during business hours:mad:

Even http downloads goes down to 1.5kb/s:whistle:

For you it might not be a big deal, for me it is.

Besides Necromancers comments was due to the quality of the service. And I think it is a big sticking point. It is irrelevant how much you download...it is uncapped afterall. If you can pull 50 gigs over 5 days does not mean you had good value for money, because you paid R5 per gig. That was Dave's argument at the time.

The point is, you paid for a service that should give you 256kbps minimum for 28/30/31 days, respective of the amount of days in a month.

Quality of service and price is the only benchmark that is important when comparing one uncapped account...to another...

As for how much you want to download and how fast, well that will determine the product category that you pick.

And if you don't "get that", you simply just don't understand uncapped broadband...

With that I agree, but if memory serves me, the users were asking for usage statistics...
