I would like to know who is in charge of moderating Discuss comments for MBB.
I have sent a "contact us" message quite some time ago to try and get to the bottom of this issue I have with MBB and haven't seen a response. It's been months.

All my messages I'm attempting to post on the discuss part of articles are always "waiting to be approved by" MBB, TA and BT.

It is quite obvious I have been flagged as some sort of troublemaker for an unknown reason. I wish this to be rectified since I cannot help but feel discriminated against when I see other people's messages pop up immediately after seeing a "another person is typing" situation but I have to wait to be vetted.

Why do you believe you are being discriminated against?

So what kind of kooky thing do you post that require moderation? Let the crowd judge.

Kinda concerning that the MyBroadband sewers are spilling over into forum.

Read the Disqus Comments policy:

MyBroadband Comment Policy

We have numerous knowledgeable readers and it is great that you want to share your knowledge and opinions with others.

Our comment policy is aimed at ensuring that discussions are constructive and that valuable comments get the attention they deserve.

To improve the signal-to-noise ratio of article comments, MyBroadband handles Disqus comments as follows:
  • All comments will go into a moderation queue and valuable comments will be approved and published.
  • Users who regularly make insightful comments will become “Trusted”, and their comments will automatically display after they are posted. They will bypass the moderation queue.
Below are guidelines to ensure that your comments do not get deleted.
  • Share valuable and interesting information using proper language and in full sentences.
  • Avoid one or two-word comments. They seldom add value to the discussion.
  • No attacks on MyBroadband, its journalists, or other readers. This will result in a ban.
  • Avoid racism, sexism, and general bigotry.
  • Give constructive criticism in a civil manner. Rude comments will not pass.
We value your opinion, even if it is in direct conflict of what we believe. Express yourself in a civil manner, preferably with facts, and your comments will be approved.

As far as I can recall, when I first joined, that happened to me, and then I could post, and then it happened again. It felt quite annoying, at the time, and I couldn't understand what was happening.

It's been a while, but as far as I can recall, I posted asking what to do, and someone experienced recommended that I choose the "off topic" sections and post there, a few times, and have some patience. I recommend that, too, since it definitley did the trick, and after a few more stop-starts, I became free to post. It all seems sensible to me since, after all, at some level the forum is being protected so it is not to be flooded with spam.

You write, here, that it is "obvious [you] have been flagged as some sort of troublemaker". That seems, to me, like a rather surprising assumption. Do you think your posts are troublemaking? I ask because, back then when I was still in the phase of having my posts vetted before they appeared, it would never have occurred to me to draw that conclusion.

He's referring to article discussion which use Disqus, not forum posts.

I have no idea who moderates the Disqus comments OP.

I cannot help but feel discriminated against
Actually you can help it. You can just realize that article comments are usually a cesspool and there's better things to worry about than the arbitrary moderation policies of a news organization trying to manage it's article comments for it's own ends.

The forum is much better.

There is literally no point in commenting on discuss in articles.

This is about the Disqus section, not the forum...

rietrot, based on what I experienced here today I have to disagree. Out of the 13 posts only two were helpful. The rest were full of name-calling.

Cosmik Debris answered my question. Its not that I am being flagged as some sort of ne'er-do-well, but rather that the members I saw getting posts immediately validated has been "whitelisted". Thanks Cosmik Debris. Bwana also sticked to the topic, thanks.

RedViking, the three times I criticized the writer my posts were removed. Go figure.
Most of my removed shitposts either contained swear words or was simply a meme or the words "lol", which to me feels like valuable input, but since I'm biased in my own favor there's a good chance I'm simply wrong about that.

skeptic_sa, thanks for making me look like the Karen I was acting out here.

supersunbird, if I knew I wouldn't have needed to ask here. The modes doesn't give reasons for these things, making it confusing at times.

You are correct maybe the internet isn't for you if a few trolls offend you that easily.

Users do get whitelisted. They were quite open about it in the beginning. My comments go on a waiting list and then they approve it eventually, or remove it if too much criticism. Doesn't have to be criticism towards the journalist or article even.

Like if it is an article about Zuma who doesn't have to go to jail and you say something like "It's because they don't want to replace the shower heads. Cowards.". It will get removed most likely.

If they feel you are bad busines, they will just put you on the pending list permanently.

Be a good buy. Constructive criticism. Think very carefully what you post. And they will approve your posts. Might even need to use a new user account though.

Or do like most and don't read the sensational blog posts.

The cognitive dissonance is real.
