Communication is a basic human right, how communication is facilitated is not a basic human right and it could be smoke signals, sign language, verbal, non verbal, digital, analogue, political snake oil.

If I did not have internet and had to believe all the doomsday sms's Afriforum send me, I would have either send them money or committed suicide.
If I did not have internet, I would have believed all the BS my family and friends come up with, hell I would probably still sing Kumbaya

This is a good move. Why do you think most dictatorships in the world try to limited or sensor their citizens internet use?
 
No because when you don't have access no one is violating your rights. It's no one's humanitarian responsibility to supply internet access.
 
I say Yes. Internet as a form of infinite knowledge, advancing the Human race is a basic Human right. SJW and all that twitter nonsense is not.

If you don't have the right to freedom of association I could simply force you to join my group against your will.

Without these rights the world descends into chaos.

So you think it is malema or the SABC. How does malema communicate with them and why can others not do the same?

You are also delusional if you think the millions with a poor education is going to do any meaningful research on the Internet.

Agreed the intranet is a hotbed of whacko conspiracy theories and people are easily manipulated using their tribal identities into believing the most wildly divisive nonsense. You only have to look at a certain MMA podcaster whos lack of critical thought is leading his fan boys into a right wing lala land.

That said government services are increasingly migrating online and citizens have a right to access these services.

Fair point, they can zero rate access to government services and even to quality educational sites.

Of course they have a right to access these services online. Just as they have a right to visit a government office for services.

But no-one has the moral right to compel other people to pay for that access. You are still responsible for moving your carcass to a government office at your own expense. Likewise, the equipment and data services you use to access government e-services is for your own account. If not, where the hell does the expropriation stop if you don't have a principle on which to make a decision?

Don't know about whether it should be a human right. But my team mates from this weekends game does not deserve the right to internet, they shouldn't have the right to communicate with other people.
 
It should be a human right but as many mentioned it is a pricey commodity to offer. However I’m sure if governments reigned in a bit of wastage and fraud world wide they would have more than enough to provide it.
