you practically ignore my entire post & you call me ignorant . . .As I said ignorant.
Basically I'm wasting my time responding to you as you really have no idea what you are talking about.
I don't bite my nails, feel like klapping my brother when he does it.
it's not a habit that can't be ''un-learnt''
if things like that happened to my friends/family i would not be going to work for at least a few days.... so a really silly thing to say.
Bottom line is I dislike it badly. It is a sign of nervousness as per your quote which to me speaks of insecurities.
That means the person would have to work on kicking their bad habit & would probably have to work on their insecurities to ensure that they can get rid of the habit for good.
I can understand a teenager being full of insecureties but they out grow that leaving the habit to remain..
I'm pretty sure I don't have any insecurities... and I don't have any other bad habits.
I think you are over psychologising this!
I generally keep my nails short and tidy using clippers and an emory board which I keep next to my bed. There is no room for dirt to collect underneath. I only tend to bite them when I have washed my hands or had a bath. Then when my skin is pink and wrinkled and my nails soft, I tend to notice them and will bite them. The things is, I have pretty much bitten them all off, before I notice what I am actually doing, so it is not something I am nervous or worried about... and it does not bother me much after the fact either. If they look untidy then I'll clean them up a bit.
The fact that it bothers you so much tells me more about you, than it does about me. I really don't give a crap what others think. My original question revolved around, why people do it. Not what others think.
Im a really bad nail biter. Have been ever since I was a kid. I guess its anxiousness, stress and anxiety for me. I also try hard not to bite my nails, but I fail miserably. In fact, I'm busy chewing them off as i type...it is a disgusting habbit, something I wish I never had.
i wait till my nails are about 1.5mm long, then chew off about 1mm so there's a fine white rim (.5mm) evenly distributed around the quick.
then i throw the ends in the bin.
i prefer the control of teeth to clippers and scissors.
i really can't stand emory boards, so i'd rather shave a bit with my teeth then rub against rough fabric to soften the edges.
i think my aversion of blades comes from my mother cutting my nails too deep as a kid and ending up with bleeding fingers. that's not on.
i haven't had a hangnail in years. works great for me.
while i'm at it, i generally do cuticles too. once a week is sufficient.
anybody? I still do, sometimes when I can't get to the clippers fast enough. What is it that makes us do that? Some mineral deficiency? Not enough keratin in our diet?
