Do you hog bandwidth?

700-800gb of legal stuff...wow

I once throught the problem was with the user, but its not, its with the ISP. They need to prevent this happening, at a stretch remove the uncapped accounts. If there is genuinely a strain on the network, then ISP's need to work harder at throttling those hogs. Giving them an uncapped account and asking them not to download, is like giving a kid unabridged access to a sweet shop with a pocket full of cash and telling him not to buy anything. Its impossible, we all know the mentality in this country is only about oneself, therefor relying on users to slow down is not gonna happen.

The service is the problem... ISPs are the problem...

Lol, even when I had my the old express+ account I came nowhere close to those figures. Quite happy with being shaped and getting between 100-300Gigs thanx.

All my downloads are legit. Try getting an Apple Tv and download a couple hi-def tv shows and movies every month. Then combine it with a MSDN subscription and you are three quarters of the way there

I have an AppleTV and rent quite a few HD movies off the US iTunes store each month. However, they are 4-5 gigs each if I remember correctly. So how on earth are you doing 700gb-800gb a month with iTunes rentals and MSDN? Or do you never leave your tv room?

All my series/movies/documentaries are now 720p :)

At about 75-80GB a month on an Openweb Gold account (perhaps less- they don't seem to count/display usage). 384k line, works out cheaper and better than DSTV (no ads/repeats). Just wish I had sport :(

I have 6 terabytes of movies and tv shows already purchased from the us itunes store. It's a great way to entertain kids when you are having parties and I have quite a few :-)) If I wanted to steal movies and tv shows I would use even more bandwidth every month and it would not bother me at all. Afterall, I did get an "UNCAPPED" account

Yes  but useage of 200 gig max a month... used to do a terra a month.

I use about 50GB per month on my 4mb ADSL line. Lots of streaming, lots of downloading.

At 384 I think I did about 20GB maximum and got everything else I needed at university.

I agree... there are actually some pretty good uncapped accounts you can get that are expensive yes... but cater for the demand.

These el cheapo fake uncapped accounts are the problem. They threaten you and say you are abusing their network.

But since when did using an uncapped account in an uncapped manner become abuse? What if you really wanted to test them on that claim? The ISPs call them "Uncapped" accounts so let us test just how uncapped they are. Oh wait.. we are told... you can't use it in that way because that is abuse and you will inconvenience other users... Well how are we supposed to believe the uncapped claim then if we can't test it? And since when did other users convencience become my problem? I thought network provision was their problem not mine.

I use about 333GB a month. I know I can use more but I do not have that much that I want to download.

no im not a bandwith HOG, i just take what i pay for... some time ago, I.S would send me my usage on a daily basis.. then i realised that i get a total of 1TB & so therefore i may as well use as much of that as i can!!!
so once again, no im not a bandwith hog!! - i only get around 700gigs a month & therefore am wasting 300gigs - that ive actually paid for but i dont get!! - anyways thats the way i see it :D

One little thing you are all overlooking

Their definition of a bandwidth hog is a user that does twice the average bandwidth and is then throttled down to 512K

Unfortunately for all you "bandwidth hogs" out there SA has a low usage (average around 20Gig per month?) so by this definition anyone using more than 40Gig a month is a" bandwidth hog" and should be throttled.

I agree with gary. I just wish ISPs would stop calling it uncapped and start calling it something else, define a FUP limit of 200GB/500GB. That way it wouldn't be the same cry thread everyday of "but I'm paying to download the internet" or the other end of the scale "my interent is slow because of all the download kiddies". Because really this topic is getting old.

so that means if you do over a 80Gig a month, then possibly you are a Obese Bandwidth Hog? :D

Come on , i downloaded a +-50Gig Linux repo for ubuntu 9.10 "next up 10.4" and that was over 4 day's i 'love my Axxess account ;)
