Where to start...

I used to have a Honda Civic Vtec, had quite a few mods on it, namely :
Skunk2 Cams, TNT Full Exhaust system, Branches, Vtec Controller Chip (Valve timing on the Vtec used to kick in at 3500rpm)..

And every single sunday, my father, my brother and me, would go to Wesbank!
There is no feeling on earth, not bungee jumping, sky-diving, nothing, that compares to lining up against an equally matched car, infront of thousands of people and racing.

My brother would race his E36 M3, also slightly modified, and we were very well known on a Sunday afternoon...

The best time I ever managed in my vtec was a 16.2 and for my brother in his M3 was a 14 flat..

I now drive an Mcoupe but havent dragged it because im scared of losing motorplan :(

Any dragging enthusiasts here?
If so, what times have you done and in what car?

Sounds like fun... I've been pondering buying a 2000 S2000 and modding it.

Please can someone explain Drag Racing to me as a sport...

Its even more boring and daft than Nascar

I drag raced my 400gsx-r st rallies, many years abo.but i still cant think why a 350 2 stroke beat me everytime,5 out of 5 quarter miles he gunned me,always 2 meters in front....
Today i wouls like to drag a 1400cc bike, just gotta buy me one now

If you drag robot to robot you deserve to have your car confiscated by the police, crushed and to get a nice hefty fine + jail sentence for endangering the public and for displaying extreme stupidity.

Contrary to what it seems, going around an oval track at speed is pretty daunting and difficult.
Give yourself a treat and go around Gerotek flat out for 2-4 laps; more than that and your right front might blow due to heat.

I don't like drag's that much either. Going around a track is a lot more fun. I miss those Sundays when Kyalami was open for the public - nice wide kerbs and that tricky Nashua corner, 2-3.

I second that, f***ing hooligans.

Please explain to me cricket as a sport? Its more daft and boring than Nascar or drag racing.

Everyone has their choices ;)

lcbxx : I am not saying its not difficult, but its nowhere near as difficult as proper circuit racing with lefts and rights.... But more to the point its ridiculously boring to watch, and drag racing even more so.

Ahhh Cricket is a gentlemans game, with tactics and such... Drag racing is just a pissing contest it seems :p

Yamaha RD350 - 2 stroke engine that could rev up to 22k RPM.
I used to have one ;)

I dont understand....
Wheres the danger? 2 cars at a robot race to the next robot... No weaving through traffic, the only danger will be if you to stupid to stop the car in time...

Racing on the highway is dangerous and stupid.... "robot to robot" nah....

Danger? oh I dunno, there are people on the pavements, there is private property all around you. You could crash (not that I care about your wellbeing if you're racing robot to robot) and kill innocent bystanders just so you can have a few seconds of an adrenalin rush..

Racing ANYWHERE other than on proper drag-strips/racing circuits is patently beyond stupid, oh and illegal as well.

mechristian : its NEVER a start, if you want to start drag racing, get in touch with your local club and find out when they're having sanctioned and safe events.

But those are dangers we face driving everyday right?
The risk of redlining your first 4 gears in a straight line... doubt it.

Why? lost to many times? It is a start, thats what was asked. Anyway I agree there is no space here for hooliganism
There is no point in dragging between traffic lights, apart from it being dangerous and you looking and sounding like a poephol.

Go to a proper drag strip or closed road where there is proper control and safety. The irony of it all is that you rarely see these robot-dragsters at proper meets.

There were reports quite recently about guys crashing into other cars and pedestrians while drag racing in Durban.

But ja, keep on "redlining" it for now. Perhaps you, and those around you, are fortunate enough not to have your car smash into them, and you will keep promoting illegal street drags.

Until the unthinkable happens....

Yes JK8 they're the risk we face driving everyday....

But you heighten those risks to an unacceptable level when you do your stupid robot-to-robot drags.... and as I mentioned before, its ILLEGAL.
