Drag Racing

There were reports quite recently about guys crashing into other cars and pedestrians while drag racing in Durban.

But ja, keep on "redlining" it for now. Perhaps you, and those around you, are fortunate enough not to have your car smash into them, and you will keep promoting illegal street drags.

Until the unthinkable happens....

They were under the infuence and the hype at drag events does get carried away and drivers act stupid.

I don't think it's fair to compare street class drag racing to those top fuel funny cars and the like.

As for 'robot to robot' drags. Racing*.* shouldn't be done on public roads, you're a daft to think just because the roads are clear you're in the safe.

I completely agree Fudzy (as you may have gathered from the tone of my posts :) ).

In my honest opinion, anyone caught doing anyform of street racing should have their cars confiscated and the cars need to be crushed.

I have to agree with you on this.

Just to make clear, I'm all for motor racing as a sport, be it the formula series, drag racing, hell even drifting. I love cars and I love seeing them compete, just not at the risk of those who don't.

Fudzy : I am with you on that. motor racing is awesome (ok I don't get or enjoy Drag dracing, or most of the american formulas) but only when done in a safe environment such as on a track.

Yamaha RD350 - 2 stroke engine that could rev up to 22k RPM.
I used to have one ;)

eh? 22k rpm on a 2stroke...nooit bru, stop lying to the kids now
that is a physical impossibility. dont matter how high you move the exhaust port *any* 2 stroke cannto reach 22k rpm.

to dablakm8rtk, 2 stroke will normally beat 4 stroke in like for like cc engines, as there are twice as many power strokes. rd350ypvs or even the older lc would easily sort out most 500's...nevermind some high revving 400cc popcorn machine :-)

wow this thread got hijacked!
I asked for times and in what car...
I dont recall seeing timers on our roads, so obviously im not talking about dragging on the road, im talking at legal drag days...

Best time ive seen is one of those rocket cars at wesbank, did an 8 second quarter mile I think..

Louis Lima in his little blue datsun always impressed me the most.

killarny or some such after milnerton?

Shot. Found the website. Looks like fun, I see they also have a street car category.

For the drag results they list reaction time, what is that for? At first I thought it was the time between the lights going green and the car moving fowards but most of the reaction time are over one second which seems too slow.

Ok.. <quick foray OT> After seeing THIS thread, and then to run across this thread... I had this sudden mental image of 2 guys, dressed as ugly women, doing the 100m dash...

Now i got to explain to everybody here why i cant stop laughing

</OT foray>
