Dragon Age: The Veilguard is impressive, beautiful, and will inevitably split opinion
Dragon Age: The Veilguard certainly feels like BioWare at its most confident in a decade, but it's still not going to be a game for everyone.

I didn't particularly hate DA2 which was pretty linear as well, so I don't overly mind if it doesn't go the full BG3 open world experience.
It was shown during the demonstration and confirmed during various media articles in the last few days. You can issue commands but you can't directly control companions.
Very much agree with pcgamers take:
Larian already made the Dragon Age 4 I was hoping for
The gameplay reveal for The Veilguard feels like it hardly wants to be a Dragon Age game at all.

Nevermind the companions, look at this gameplay trailer. It looks like you have 1-4 skills and now its just a basic action game with a story instead of being an RPG.

I don't mind in a single character game I mind in a party based game.
Yes its always been part and parcel of the series. Sort of expected in party based games.

What is it with the pew pew laser gun sounds in a fantasy game?
Even worse is the loud speaker announcements like you in a airport or something...

Debatable, it was full open world sure, but it was filled with mostly mmo fetch quests
