DSTV not cancelling top shows

Off the topic .....
I was wondering if any of you knows how DSTV control active cards....

i.e. If my card gets stolen and I get a replacement card does it mean that person who ends up using the stolen card get to watch DSTV off my subscription ?

already seen all those series up to date with the USA! :)

who needs DSTV? :p

I for one had no idea there were rumours of them cancelling any of the shows, but now that they've denied it I'm sure we'll see another press release in the near future declaring exactly the opposite. I mean, come on, how many of these 'no there's no plans to stop/cancel/lower/wring more money out of you' releases have we had to endure only to have whatever's been predicted shunted upon us the following week. Mark my words.

My new motto: where there's smoke there's fire.

You guys are gonna love the show called Testees when DSTv airs it!

There were rumours that some were to be cancelled - but not by DSTV, rather by the producers of the show.
I heard Reaper was possibly going to be cancelled (tv.com I think).
So, rumours are "correct", assigning those rumours to DSTV, not so much.

Well you watched those shows because guys like me, who subscribe to DSTV, pay for them. Unless of course you BOUGHT them on iTunes, Hulu or Amazon or via DVD.

Ja, thanks for that. Got some more invoices coming up for some stuff I bought at Take 2. Will PM you my bank details and you can do a direct deposit! Thanks! :D

or subscribe and watch up to date...or does that blow your mind?

Does it "blow your mind" that if no-one buys these shows ie pays money for them either to the TV channel or via some other way - they won't get made.

BTW I don't watch any of that stuff, so I couldn't care less, but realise that freely downloadable content is not really free - someone else subsidizes it.

I know a lot of people who download tons of shows, don't own DSTV or buy DVDs and then claim that "Oh they'd buy the show or watch it locally, but it isn't available here."

Since DSTV show stuff late it makes sense to rather wait for it to come out on DVD and then get a copy of the season. For example Terminator 2 the Sarah Connor Chronicles Season 2 has just finished and by the time DSTV show it will most probably available in DVD. Something like Pushplay seems to be a better thing to subscribe to for much cheaper and they will get whatever you want.

Theres also the cheaper options and ways to get all the documentaries and shows for the cost of a basic internet connection. Something I learned here on these forums :D

PeterCH, have you ever heard of advertising? Do you know how much money is generated from all the channels over the world for adverts between 1 show, say, scrubs ?

the money you are paying go to multichoice, not the shows really.

Have you got an idea how much Coca Cola pays, for 1 single, 20 second advert? any idea at all?

Keeper, you're smart -- tell me my friend, how do channels get paid for ads, who determines the price?

It's done according to
RATINGS ie how popular a channel is. If you're (and this is a hypothetical you, not you as in Keeper, but you as in anyone) not watching DSTV because you can download the shows for free - you're one less viewer and ad space either doesn't get sold or it's sold cheap - well pray tell me how do the show producers get their money then (or the channel owners)?

So MC pays in WHAT exactly when buying shows?

What has that got to do with anything?
