My household's actually contemplating cancelling oyr DSTV due to the really high costs.

Well all I watch is Supersport 1, 2, 3, 4. Its getting expensive but there is nothing else I can do except bite the bullet and pay the amount to watch the F1 this year! Won't miss it for the world or watch delayed broadcasts :)

I am like Mike. I would die without my fix of all things sport.

We had DSTV for 3 years, and then got rid of it.
It's not worth it. With every R4xx per month people can go to a restaurant, or buy some extra groceries or do whatever with that little bit extra.

I'd just love to subscribe to the SuperSport + ESPN channels. It's all I really watch. :)

I actually emailed multichoice about this and this is what they said....

Dear *************

Thank you for your e-mail. Apologies for the delayed response.

Offering smaller packages of DStv channels (tiers) is not necessarily a more cost-efficient option for MultiChoice and our subscribers. The cost of broadcasting smaller packages to a limited number of subscribers has to date, been higher per package than broadcasting the full bouquet of channels to all our subscribers.

This is due to the way the DStv channel suppliers structure the commercial deals for the sale of their channels - clearing rights for a territory is an expensive exercise and unless suppliers get paid across the entire subscriber base, it is most often not feasible to start the process.

MultiChoice has introduced one smaller fixed package of channels called DStv Compact. The cost of subscribing to DStv Compact is R199.00 per month, with a surcharge of R55.00 for Dual View / PVR subscribers.

This mini bouquet is pre-defined and fixed and you can not select your own channels or the channels that comprise the package. Please note that this smaller bouquet does not include premium movies or sport, which is only available on the full premium DStv bouquet.

Subscribers will be able to view the following channels on DStv Compact, which includes the Interactive services available on the Interactive channels and excludes the DMX channels.

Herewith attached is the list of channels for the DStv Compact Bouquet.

MultiChoice in conjunction with Vodacom has launched a new bouquet called DStv select. This service is only available through Vodacom and offers you access to one of the following DStv Select Bouquets. Please refer to attachment. This is at an affordable monthly subscription of R139.00 per month (including VAT). In addition to the DStv Select TV channels, you will also have access to four DMX channels.

To subscribe to the DStv Select service, please contact Vodacom on 082 1082.

Should you require any further assistance, please do not hesitate to contact us.

Kind regards

So, in affect they're saying no go.:(

Since there is no alternative and with no uncapped broadband pretty much have no choice but to take the pain. I need dstv to watch my sports so I will just have to accept this.

Multichoice FAIL

They broadcast at such low resolutions and insane compression, on an LCD TV it looks rubbish. Theres nothing ever on worth other than repeats of stuff I don't watch anyways. They take away Sci-Fi. Have a useless call center. And now they bump up prices.

If they just think carefully. Reduce the price by half, they can EASILY double their customer base. There is enough middle class that can afford it then.

Its a monopoly that will soon come to an end. I jumped ship about two months ago. I miss nothing to be honest.

Oh for those of you who want F1, get TVU and stream it. Quality aint so hot, but I will live with it. Better than spending R469 to watch 2 races a month.

I was also told by multichoice I can negotiate a rate for just the F1 channels. That remains to be seen. If I get hold of someone I will let you guys know - apparently he's back on Monday.
