DStv prices hiked up again

Exactly. It would great to have a specific subscription for sport and leave the rest of us with some affordable viewing at affordable prices. Google TV gives away a lot of the stuff that we have to pay for and shows that it can be done. The only issue is one of competition.

They have a number of awesome channels and provided you don't live in front of the tv you should find something decent to watch.

people spend hundreds going out and drinking and stuff, or whatever they do. I have no problem paying R600 a month to watch EVERY premier league game, every motogp, every f1, euros, list goes on and on

if you dont watch sport, then obviously torrents are a million times better, which I use.
dstv for me is exclusively for sport, and for my GF, is the fashion channels :)

Exactly my point, we are forced content that has been pre contracted by DTSV, which I am paying for and viewed by a limited audience. I do not want to watch the German/Portuguese/Italian football leagues. At least Sky offers a choice of channels. At the end of the day, it is not quantity I want to watch, but freedom of choice. Why must I subsidize channels such as Kyknet, African Channels, etc, etc....

2,000,000 million subscribers x average R20 increase per month... DSTV makes another R40 million a month... not bad. An extra Half Billion Rand a year.
Naspers must love that division of their company!
 
DSTV is not really growing their subscriber base by that much. In order for that to happen the middle class must grow and for the last few years it has not.

Last I heard they have about 6 million subscribers (not sure if that's premium or total). Goes a long way to explain the cost of premium - especially when you consider the cost to sports rights and premium series / movies.

I agree though that it's bloody expensive. If did not get a significant discount as a perk of working for a company in the group, I would not be on premium.
 
OK, so I under estimated the number of subscribers... But an extra few Billion Rand a year is way more than a simple "Inflationary Increase" ... it's just plain greed.
 
Canceled DSTv at the and of 2011.... So now I just LOL :D

I'm going to wait until after the Olympics and then cancel. With xtraview it's now close to R700 per month! :twisted:
 
The good thing about DStv is that you are free to cancel at any time. Stop your sobbing if you can't afford it.
 
So glad I cancelled many moons ago. They won't see me back. So tired of being ripped-off around every corner for anything you want to buy. If it's not Gov taking our money with "new" taxes, it's retailers extorting money with over inflated prices, such as cars, hard drives (I'll believe the price drops when production resumes, when I see it), houses, petrol, insurance, communication, internet, food, etc. The list just gets longer by the day.

Sorry DSTV I work way to hard for my money to give you that much for so little in return.

I canceled years ago... now it is my mission in life to rob this evil company of as many subscribers as possible. :p

Every subscriber who stays is just one more poor unenlightened and ignorant fool and every subscriber who leaves is a liberated, enlightened and wise individual! ;)

But seriously... how can you justify staying, when it is quite clear that they are only doing this to increase profits and because they know you will just suck it up and keep handing the cash over?
How does that make you feel?
 
This doesn't make sense cause we get more repeats thn we get live programs... They should reduce those repeats 2 *mxm*

eerrr.. thats the nature of Satellite television... Watch cable in america...its 95% repeats.. dstv actually has a higher level of new shows,,, no I dont work for DSTV.
