+1. Me too. I once cancelled it from work, and by the time I got back home, it was reactivated. She phoned DSTV and somehow threatened them to reactivate it. LOL...

I think it's time to try Top TV. We don't watch any sport.
 
FFS! Here we go again.
If only TopTV had live sports, Football, Cricket and Rugby. I would leave DTSV in a blink of an eye.
 
ha! cancelled mine ages ago and spend it adsl. i get to choose what i want to watch now.
 
How much is PVR, dual view and all the other stuff?
So if I wanted the top of range DSTV, I'd be close on R700pm?
 
Ouch... just got a Walka and signed up for DSTV mobile... was happy with R36... even an increase to R40/m... but gees MC... R50/m?

That's a 38% hike... that's totally unreasonable! Might as well sell this Walka on Bid or Buy!

Do you get an inflation increase each year on your salary?
Do the people working for MultiChoice not deserve the same right?
Did electricity prices go up?

There is a justification for price increases and it is called inflation...

Can you really see any reason why they could afford not to increase their prices?

I totally agree jmak, but 38% on one product offering?
 
Why is everyone moaning about? Its not DSTV who set the prices, its mostly the content providers. You don’t bitch and moan at BMW, because the petrol price went up.

And any pirate would have noticed that the content has improved a lot. We use to wait a year or two after the American or UK shows was aired to see it here. But now it’s about 4 months. (top gear is only 3 days).

But the volume on adverts and paying extra for PVR is just bull****…
 
Time to downgrade to Compact, Premium is too expensive now :(

Firstly, as subs numbers go up, staff numbers don't go up in proportion as they get economies of scale. Secondly technology prices have come down dramatically so they should be saving a number of capex and opex costs.

Well in the current economic climate I bet there are lots of people out there that did not get inflation adjusted increases.Hell pretty sure some had their salaries downgraded or lost their jobs.Go and have a look at Naspers financial results to see if they could afford not to increase their prices ;)
Personally I don't get a salary myself but run my own business - If I told my clients that I was increasing my fees because petrol,electricity went up I would be laughed at.If I have to increase my fees I had better be able to demonstrate the value in doing so.
 
This will sound strange coming from me as I have hated multichoice for a looong time, but since getting an HD-PVR I can understand the increase and I actually don't mind paying for it.

Without doubt the best thing about the PVR now is the Catch Up service. I use this extensively to track my favourite shows and I hope that before too long they will offer machines with much bigger storage capacity and the ability to store catch-up titles for longer. I'd like to be able to watch an entire series on demand, rather than wait a week for the next episode.

Now if we could just get them to stop using that bloody Coldplay song every 5 minutes I would be much happier!
 
For everyone defending the price increases.. you really need to realise how a business like MC actually operates.

Their overheads do NOT scale with subscriber numbers at all... so on a per subscriber basis their overheads go down when they increase their subscriber numbers.
They employ crap coders, so their development costs must be negligible.

All in all, year on year since they're increasing their subscriber base by significant chunks, their overheads are going down. They made a ridiculous profit last year, expect an even better year this year on the back of this increase.

They have channels that have no interest to me - why should I pay for this?
They get plenty advertising revenues.
The ZAR has appreciated!
Compared to overseas subscriptions such as Sky, they suck.
Unfortunately we stuck with DSTV, due to the lack of worthy competition and a crappy national broadcaster.

Where's the justification?

You are very wrong dude.

compared to sky dstv has better sports. They are about the best sporting network in the world. We see more football and other sports than just about any network world wide.

Sky doesn't show nearly as much football as dstv. Dstv covesr so many leagues now, sky cannot compete.

Anyone who thinks they can find streaming sport for less is living in a cloud. I only have dstv for sport coverage and it is absolutely insane the amount of sport they cover. Every year they put it up and every year the same people moan.

If you do not make use of dstv and can do without it then cancel it but for the sports fans there is nothing that can compete with dstv, not even living in the UK with sky. people who say their content is crap are also dreaming. They have a number of awesome channels and provided you don't live in front of the tv you should find something decent to watch.
