DStv prices hiked up again

DSTV Premium = 80 Channels = R590 per month.
Dish.com Everything Pak = 315 channels = R560 per month
DirecTV Ultimate Choice = 225 Channels = R340 per month
Bell Canada = 225 Channels = R410 per month

That is what some just cannot comprehend, then out of the 80 channels list what is worth watching! Then they charge the same or more than the first world providers with mostly 3rd rated content and/or old repeats from yesteryear. Lets face it South Africans are suckers allowing themselves to be raped by the ANC goons and their protected monopolies. We can clearly see the reasons why going by the reasoning in this thread.

All is forgiven if they bring back the Sc-fi Channel. Well, not really :) Stopped watching TV over 2 years ago- highly recommended. Will do wonders to the quality of life. Selective feeds and downloads from the Internet is the way to go.

DSTV raping and looting its customers

There is no reason for these increases. DSTV will one day find internet TV their main competitor.

They are extracting monopoly rents from their customers; whilst they are working in effect an unregulated environment.

My son started his B.Com course this year and to avoid one of the distractions (PC another) in the house I suspended my DSTV service. Saving R590 a month, I am not complaining.
Naspers shareholders are creaming it.

Someone has to pay for AA and its inefficiencies!!!

Of course it is excessive... there are hundreds of other providers around the world that carry far more channels and have thousands more subscribers (much more admin costs) than DSTV and they manage to do it for far less. Their pricing is excessive and it is greedy. It is excessive because they are abusing their monopoly position. Those are the facts.

Do you get an inflation increase each year on your salary?
Do the people working for MultiChoice not deserve the same right?
Did electricity prices go up?

There is a justification for price increases and it is called inflation...

Can you really see any reason why they could afford not to increase their prices?

But if their profits are going up year on year and their subscriber base is constantly increasing, does this not cancel out the inflation argument?

In a "normal economy" its all supply and demand, if demand is high then of course they put the prices up year on year. As long as there is no real competitive, demand for DSTV will be high.
I say normal, as SA being a very small economy is not normal per se, take a look at the motor industry, massive demand and competition exists, yet we still get @$$ r@ped daily on the seriously high price of cars.

But if their profits are going up year on year and their subscriber base is constantly increasing, does this not cancel out the inflation argument?

Ridiculous! - Rather spend that money on a 4MB Line

Anyone know of a site that offers streaming live sport? ....don't mind paying a small fee

They still have not fixed the huge mess they’ve caused with their roll-out of the latest firmware on the 1131 and 1110 decoders since November 2011. More than 3 months down the line and we still sit with the results of your incompetence and now you want to increase the prices again. Come on, first refund us for the period we have received the terrible service before you even think about increasing the subscriptions (http://forum.dstv.com/showthread.php?t=14128&page=1)

If they keep this up i will cancel my account.....
What? They have been keeping it up for how many years and people are still paying, and they will do i again next year if enough people don't cancel this year. You people bring it on yourselves.

Insanity: doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different*results

How is BoxOffice an added value, you still need to pay for the movie you wish to watch. And the same with DSTV mobile, not everybody uses, but everybody now has to pay for it.

And don't even get me started on the repeats.

Exaxtly!!!! I closed my account as soon as I got the notification of the increase.

Sick and tired of paying over and over again for stuff repeated over and over again!!!!!!!!!

At the end of every day, week, month, year, these buggers push the REWIND button, and we poor suckers pay, and for what? just to "watch again" what we have seen before. @R590 per month =R7080 for 12 months of mostly REPEATS?????? and that figure is excluding the R20 per month insurance (optional) on the decoder? And this is from ONE premium subscription per year only????

Bl***DY Hell!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
