Earth Hour - join the movement...

can I still use my computer during that hour?

I was wondering about that too... your tv and pc uses way more power than all the lights in your house... that's why this whole operation doesn't make much sense. And I wonder how may of the companies that leave everything on over a weekend, will shut down their lights and aircons?

in there like swimwear :), im gonna do a couple hours more for the berks that dont give a shyte

Lemme get this, If I'm driving on the N1 do I switched off my car or drive without headlights?

I plan on switching everything off ... excluding the fridge.

how am I supposed to go one hour without checking my e-mail?

Not saving power

Earth hour is not about saving power for an hour. You know it doesn't save power when you turn off a light, right? That energy just gets dissipated as heat at your substation, the power plant has a constant power output. The only way to reduce fuel consumption at the power plant is to change the population's overall power usage patterns in the long run.

I hope this is not going to be a counter-productive effort where people go "Yea, I turned off my light for an hour and helped saved the planet, so now my conscience is clear." That is crap. Hopefully it makes people aware that there is a problem so they start using less power in general.

Yay! So I can leave my lights on? and still feel good about it? :D

There is something new every year... This year it's Earth Hour, last year it was something else.

I remember last year's thing, that concert or whatever - I remember my friends all saying they are going to do it - what happened? they completely forgot about it.

*yawn*

It will come and it will go and nothing will have changed.
