There's few sites , like NZ own immigration site where they have questionnaires up which you can "test" how qualified you are to live+work in NZ . If you look at all the questions they are all about:
1. Level of Education : Where you got it , How long ago you got it (and if you got it in NZ, it counts extra)
2. Work Experience
3. Whether your education+work is part of their shortage/long term list of skills needed (in general this is same all over the world, doctors,nurses,engineers). However they have infrastructure plans, so certain skills in construction/artisans/electricians etc also gives you extra points, primarily it looks like tradesmen/draughstman (an area of education that was totally destroyed by the ANC here when they closed alot of these schools down)
4. Whether you got family in NZ and/or any ancestry related link to NZ
I think point #2 counts for most of the points. Obviously there are instant disqualifiers like criminal record or previously deported from NZ.
