Eskom - BEE to blame

BEE....that pretty little thing which means someone can get x% free cash from your hard work. Oh and no don't worry about needing to work, we've got these "rules" in place to make sure you can get your free money without too much hassle..

The observant will note that no source is given for this information...
interesting...

I have no idea - as I said (well, more alluded to), the article is terribly short of information - even the source of their claims is not apparent.
Another case of shoddy SABC news reporting and editing.

It's the claim that made me take notice - unsupported that it is (in terms of this article), it is interesting that the ANC lapdog ran it at all.

It is, maybe they think if they throw in a few articles like this every now and then they can claim to be objective.

sucks to say this (I mean, they're the national broadcaster and all), but nothing new there.

hehehe....wonder who's without power each night....or maybe someone worried that they won't be able to get their bonus in a few months?

But jokes aside, really, I do wonder why it got run.

Perhaps - but what a way to do it.
The biggest sore point of all in the whole Eskom saga.
The point that, more than anything, has sparked a racial divide, a "polarisation of the nation" as someone put it.

Stop blaming the government, BEE, AA and all the rest. We all know its the policies and fault of the previous (racist) government that led to this fiasco. Many of them still in the employ of Eskom..
B-U-L-L-S-H-I-T.

Please, I invite you, show me where 30% of BEE appointments resulted in progress, economic growth and expansion for the company at which they were appointed.

They should all be fired for this mess and be replaced by suitable BEE candidates. At least they would put policies in place to supply cheap power to the poor and previous disadvantaged.

Oh wait...nevermind, don't give me that 30% example, as you're still one of those who are thinking that BEE & Co. will help this country. There are no(t enough) suitable BEE candidates to fill the jobs which need doing.

I completely agree. Then the poor and disadvantaged can work at the .. um .. um .. um .. no wait .. where did all the jobs go?

You have it all wrong. Subsistence farming is very labour intensive.
:p

I just heard from a reliable source about this guy who left Escom and is now contracting for them...Prob now is, he's having problems getting his money out of Escom as there "might be a shortage of funds"...Also, seing there has been NO maintenance work done on the Turbines since 1994, the bearings of some Turbines are busy packing up...Apparently you can actually HEAR them...He recon that IF the Turbines start crashing, we can be completely out of elect for 5 YEARS!!!

lol

I really hope that is BS.

I heard another story yesterday - this is a factoid - but I cannot speak for what is happening.

When a substation trips or is switched off, the switch that "breaks the contact" is in oil.
This "absorbs" the "spark" across the poles. A bit like when you pull the plug out of the wall when the heater is on. You get that "spark".

Now, that oil is only good for X amounts of "trips", because the oil's properties and nature changes over time.

If the oil is not regularly replaced with new oil, what happens is that is acts as a conductor. So, if the oil is "old" and the substation trips, the circuit remains live - the oil acting as a link in the current.

Question is, are they changing that oil more often now as a result of the higher number of "trips"?

I for one doubt it.
