Your experience does not seem to be on the ground at all. And you seem to apply your own experience and understanding to everyone else. Typically, this is a sign of ignorance.

@SauRoNZA is 100% correct in that most people do not have Gigabit routers, and keep old ones through speed upgrades – whether paid or for free… There is a huge amount of ignorance in non IT folk. The amount of people I’ve seen who upgrade line speed when streaming isn’t working well, for example. Another example, people upgrading line speed when range extender speed is not as good as router WiFi speed.

If company A , B and C offer Gbit and account for 80,000 users - but company D offers 10/100 and have 20,000 users - then 80% use Gbit rerouters.

Also let's be honest, the main reason ISPs are giving better/Gigabit/dual band, free routers these days, on fibre packages below 50-100Mbps, is because it cost ISPs too much time and money supporting people complaining about poor WiFi speeds with entry-level routers. Example I've known of many people over the years with +-50Mbps fibre who would get 30 - 40Mbps over WiFi, who would complain and get better routers from their ISPs.

Another fact is that, when customers phone in for fibre line speed upgrades, ISPs typically do not say "Do you have/need a router that supports it?".

They just do it.

Yea @capd I worked in the industry of hardware supply to ISPs and know pretty much know them all, their TR69/auto-provisioning requirements & dealt with them on a day to basis. Not only that, but I dealt with the factories directly specifically on the hardware that is supplied and the customization of hardware for local ISPs. I tested multiple routers to see if they comply. It's actually tough to get much closer ...

But at the end of the day, I just don't feel like arguing over with a random person that doesn't refuses to listen to anyone else. Plenty of people on MyBB know me and what I do . Plenty have met me - with or without knowing it . It is what it as the of the day

89% are using WiFi 4 and 5 . They don’t break down further - but I can guarantee you that the majority are using WiFi 5 … which incidentally means in most cases Gbit.

*There are outliers - but generally 10/100 & WiFi 4 ; as well as Gbit & WiFi 5 go together
