Using my Telkom line purely for bandwidth purposes - up to 4Mbit.
Randburg/Johannesburg

Using my free minutes from mobile operator to make calls.

Telkom line only for ADSL.
Centurion
384 Line

Using Vodacom/Cell for all my voice calls

Location :
Home - Durban
Work - Durban
in both cases only use ADSL line for data not voice

Telkom line for ADSL only - I don't use the voice service.
Line: 384k
Location: Krugersdorp

384
Randburg

I use voice because it's there, but 90% of my calls are to toll free numbers, and I probably make around 5 or so calls per month at most. I never answer the phone, unless I know it's someone who arranged with me ahead of time. If I had no voice service I wouldn't care.

Only use the voice on the Closer 2 plan to keep in touch with family/friends in Cape Town and Port Elizabeth as I live in Joburg.

I have Closer 2 + ADSL 4mbps

At the company where I'm the IT manager we have:

25 ADSL lines across all branches with only 3/4 using the voice functionality for fax otherwise the voice portion is not needed.

384k adsl
Cape Town
Voice line is blocked so it cant be used. Would prefer it totally disabled.

I don't use the voice service (although some people seem to want to phone me on it)
Service: 384K ADSL
Location: Bloemfontein

Vereeniging - Mckay Estates Area. Fastest ADSL (never see speed above 2048). I do not use ADSL line for voice. Seperate ISDN lines for voice.

Hi,

I took out my ADSL service through MWEB who at that time offered a discounted ADSL/DSTV combo. The offer was removed later, but the discounts for both remain.

Because I work from home, I use the line for both data and voice with 2 pcs (soon to be three) sharing the line.

What I pay is:

MWeb - R379 per month 3Gb cap and 384kb
Telkom - 144.74 per month line rental plus voice call charges.

Parklands
Cape Town
4096/512

Had it for almost 6 years now in one form or another. Started on 384 and been on 4096 for almost 5 years.

I understand entirely why telkom have given a "voice" line as part of your ADSL package. They need a means to be able to track your circuit. You need the copper last mile and this was the easiest way to do it. Infrastructure (managemnet billing record details) was already in place

If you rent a dedicated line from telkom you still pay for the copper portion as a seperate line item in the total bill

Typical leased line
local leads ( x2)
STU (x2)
trunk sections (copper)
and/or carrier section(s)
port charges (x2)

Adsl
voice line (copper)
adsl charge (port fees)
ISP fee (bandwidth)

Oh home line use phone (mostly incoming dont make many o/g calls) 512
office line(s) 1/4meg no phone even connected

Two home lines, Sunninghill in Joburg, 384 line, and Lyttleton in Centurion, 4mb line. Don't use a phone on either.
