Mexico to shorten school year due to World Cup, summer heat

Mexican authorities announced a decision to end the academic year earlier than planned because of the World Cup and a heat wave. But the decision sparked backlash from parents' groups and teachers.

Mexico will end the school year more than a month early, the country's education minister has announced, as it prepares to host the World Cup amid a scorching heat wave.

Education Secretary Mario Delgado made the announcement in a social media post on Thursday, prompting a wave of criticism amid fears about the impact on education and concerns from parents who will need to find alternative childcare.


"We're going to end the school year on June 5 because many states are already experiencing high temperatures, and there's also the issue of the World Cup," the French AFP news agency quoted him as saying.

I wonder what time all the matches will be? As the time difference from America and South Africa and the UK is a big difference, will we be able to watch the matches live?

It's all over the place! Bafana game time are at 18:00, 21:00 and 3:00

Yeah, hopefully once the games draw closer and they realize what's going on then they'll drop prices and/or admit some locals for free...but its going to be sad compared to Euro games.

Have you seen Evan Edinger's video about the matches in New Jersey? And how it's actually impossible to walk from a hotel to the stadium?

And about how little they've done to actually uplift the areas around stadiums in the build up?
 
Was suprised to see Percy Tau not in the squad but can't remember when last he played for SA and see he is now playing in Vietnam wtf
