I don't recall being allowed to bring bottles into the stadiums when I watched Spain-Honduras (Ellis Park) and Germany-Ghana (FNB) in 2010. I even saw security taking things away from people. At Ellis Park a fan brought a flag on a flag pole in and they snapped it in half, saying it was too big.

For me, It's not about being allowed to bring bottles or not, they are good tools for hooligans anyway, it is the fact that someone is going to make a fortune out of water.

Unfortunately that isn't new. The commodification of a basic human right (water) has been a thing for decades now.

Wait until they start charging us for being in the sun, or breathing oxygen.

Specific to FIFA and the World Cup, there is also the whole exclusive rights stuff when it comes to the likes of Budweiser (Anheuser-Busch), Coca Cola and McDs. What this meant in 2010 was no other beer available at the stadiums but Bud.

Some people have money. Why does the people only ever mean the poor to you lot?

We will see if the stadiums are empty.

And Americans aren't great with finances. They'll put a soccer ticket on their credit card. If Disney adults can be a thing so can $1000 soccer tickets.

I was hyped when we qualified, but more recent games have killed that hype.

I still think/hope we can get out of the group, but we will probably start with a loss, so meh. Not that exciting.

Besides Bafana, there used to be so much excitement ahead of a world cup. I just dont notice the same for this one.

Almost everybody only talks about ticket prices and that conversation is old now.

I am sure the stadiums will be fuller as it progresses
 
I've never been much of a soccer fan. Will watch top international sides play in a WC but that's about it. Considering the time difference I can't see myself watching many games.

The last word cup had even less hype leading up to it and more negative press and it was way better than I expected.

I snuck out of bed to watch the matches at the ‘94 WC as a kid. As an adult in 2026, I doubt I’ll bother to watch any match after 22:00.

The reason I no longer go to Newlands for cricket? Exclusivity for Castle Lager.
