Final E-toll prices published

Not sure where they're getting these tariffs from. The cost for me is R0.00/km...

Illegal to have anything that resembles a numberplate that carries a false registration number on the car...

NRTA section 35
No person shall operate on a public road a motor vehicle –
a) on which a licence number or anything purporting to be a licence number, which is not applicable to such vehicle, is displayed;


So doing this is asking to be pulled over for a valid reason.

You can expect frequent and massive increases over the next years.
 
Sanral must think twice. Gauteng peoples will never pay any cent to them. Even if they conduct massive roadblock.
 
If you Register the chances are that you'll always be late in your payments with their stupid 7 day plan. Then you'll be liable for the increased tarriff as if you were not registered. So why register?
 
So when exactly do you pay the "standard tariff" and when do you pay the "Alternate user tariff" ? It's not very clear . They broke it down in:
Registered e-tag user: has fitted an e-tag and registered an E-toll account;
Non-registered e-tag user: has fitted an e-tag, but not registered an account;
Registered VLN user: has registered an account, but not fitted an e-tag; and
Alternate user: everyone else, including users whose accounts are not up-to-date.

So , what exactly is an alternate user then? Someone who doesn't have BOTH account or etag ? I assume people who are refusing to get an etag most likely will ALSO not have an account....so they will all be alternate users? So it implies you will be billed 6x more than a etag user...??!

As the article mentions:
The last item in the regulations, 5.21, specifies that the amounts and tariffs in the regulations may be adjusted annually “by determination of the Minister [of Transport]”.

These adjustments may not exceed the Consumer Price Index calculated for the preceding 12 months.

They've made it very easy to be classed as an alternative user thereby claiming the very high tarrif. There's going to be chaos. Their call centre (If they have one) will be constantly overloaded and the legal system will be unworkable.

You are forgetting the part where they can force your employer to deduct it from your salary.
 
faaak... they not playing hey, toll fees R11, R14 , R18 and up, for that short distances...
we have some funny guys at Sanral :-)
they still dont get it, its not just about the munny per toll fee or the max level.
 
I feel sorry for the okes who's number plates are duplicated and not using the roads in Gauteng.
 
What will not be funny is when you don't pay or register, you find yourself having difficulty buying a new car, house or expensive item on HP.
 
One visit to Gauteng and you are in financial trouble or a criminal due to non-payment.

How so? They cant blacklist you at any credit bureaux for not paying tolls, this is not a credit matter. The same as why blacklisting for TV licences was stopped.

This is just what Sanral want - CPI on the cost of the whole project.
CPI should only be on the operational costs and not on the loans.
The loans / bonds were done at fixed intrest rates.
