So 2.5 months of wait for my ADSL line, and the guys phones at 7:30 and comes at 9:00am on the dot as promised.

Now - am I able to log back to my PC back home and do stuff?
Access a photo or file at home?
Start a download?
View a camera?
Anything?

I have an iPad and want to do something remotely ;)

You will need a DDNS then you can with remote access AFIK

You can download an app for the iPad that allows you to log into the PC at home and use it remotely. I have used it before to send an email from my laptop that was at home.

But now I can not remember the name of the app. Will have to check when I am back home.

You download the app for the iPad and install software on the PC. Then just log in with the app and it displays your PC screen on the iPad.

Splashtop and Teamviewer 2 of the best RDP applications on the market. Teamviewer completely free for pc and iOS, versions for both iPhone and iPad.. Splashtop as good and better in certain regards, free for pc but a couple of $ for iPad/iPhone...

That's the one! Great little app and it saved my ass when I was able to send that email.

If OP's have 3G or have wifi accessibility, why not use Teamviewer to remotely start a download or access
home PC remotely?

I use Teamviewer 7 on my ipad to access my pc at home. And Teamviewer is free from itunes

LogMeIn - free version is feature limited but works well.

They gave me the Netgear N300 ... seems pretty decent : wifi N, 3G failover etc

When I have more cash, I May replace it - but if it works well on wireless - great!
