Hi all,

I received an sms saying I have outstanding speeding fines (from January and February this year), didn't receive them in the mail but I see them on the paymyfine website now.

Can they withhold my licence until I pay up?

As far as I know, no.

My SO has a few unpaid fines - recently renew her license without issue.

You must remember that the eNatis system is also a giant mess that doesn't work properly at the best of times.

Yes, they can withhold the License disc, but only under one of the following conditions...

1) You have outstanding vehicle License fees (for this or other vehicles you may own).
2) You have a warrant of arrest out for you.
3) You have an AARTO enforcement order against you name.
4) Your vehicles is not roadworthy.

And how do they (or you, for that matter) know whether your vehicle is roadworthy or not? Never in my life have I taken mine in to get tested. The only time was when the dealerships did it when I bought the car. So they claim.

Depends if it has a roadworthy certificate on file with them or not.

A vehicle transporting passengers and heavy goods need to be roadworthied every 6 months.

The most annoying thing when you have a few of them as you need to keep track of the dates!

Your Vehicle License Disc shows when the last roadworthy was done...
It's right below the bar code.

This has never had an effect on anything. I have never taken a car for roadworthy, ever.

Well ok, mine is not a vehicle transporting passengers or goods.

No, but here in PE it makes life difficult because you can't just pay the licence portion of the amount due on the renewal notice at the Post Office and are instead forced to pay at the Traffic Department - and that's a major schelp :(

Has anyone renewed there Drivers License recently? If so how long did you wait for it to be ready for collection?

On my 7th one now.

Hmm, I've had to do it about three times in my life.
I just took it to Gateway Testing station there in Alberton.
One time I had to go and get the engine washed, or change a light bulb, etc.
Then they give you the certificate and you hand it in with the registration papers or the license renewal.
You must have just got lucky! :p

I haven't paid any of my fines since the 90's but I was denied my licence disk in Dec 2014 due to a specific fine. Difference was it was one where I was required to sign (admission of guilt) after the cop wrote the ticket.

Went and paid the R300 fine & they printed my licence disk for me after picking up payment on their system.
