Fines and Renewing Licence

Mine expired on Saturday, applied for it on Friday and got a temp one, they said it will be ready in 2-3 weeks.

Ok cool, my expires on the 30th July but I applied on the 5th July so hoping it will be ready by the 25th the latest. I need the new license when I fly to Jozi on the 31st as I'm hiring a car.

This has never had an effect on anything. I have never taken a car for roadworthy, ever.

For cars, roadworthy is only required on transfer. The traffic department will not transfer a vehicle without a recent roadworthy certificate.
If you trade-in, the dealer will usually organise this and takes on the risk of any defects. In a private sale, it's usually the sellers responsibility.

Ok, makes sense. Thanks!

Drivers license card renewal refused.

Hi all,

I received an sms saying I have outstanding speeding fines (from January and February this year), didn't receive them in the mail but I see them on the paymyfine website now.

Can they withhold my licence until I pay up?

In May 2015 I went to Bedfordview licensing department to renew my drivers license card, after going through the whole process and deemed competent to continue driving, I got to the cashier only to be told that they could not issue my new card as I had outstanding traffic fines!

That's odd.

I renewed my license Friday passed and had no problems with it. Paycity has 4 fines listed for me that says Offender must go to court, which I obviously didn't do.

Very strange. I have quite a few outstanding myself and had no issues whatsoever. Where are you based?

They can't do that for a fine unless there is an outstanding summons

HI all, I am in the process of buying a car from a widow, she has never had a drivers license and her late husband owned the car, as you can imagine there is now around 8 years of unpaid licensing. Can I license on my name, will I still be made to pay the outstanding license or does the fees automatically fall onto the registered owners name once I transfer ownership??? please help, need assistance urgently.....:-(

She should pay the outstanding fees, which will be in the couple of thousands now.

You will not be able to do the transfer of ownership unless the outstanding Licences and penalties have been paid. My experience in Tshwane anyway.

Thank you for your response, however, I was under the impression that I will be able to transfer the car onto my name and the outstanding fees will be on the current owners ID, until she decides to license another car then she will have a problem.

I stand to be corrected

My advice is to get that licence mess sorted out before you try and transfer the car into your name. It is going to run red flags all over the place (what with roadworthy required and all the rest). Was the car ever transferred into her name or is it still on her husband's name?

This must be a very good deal for you to take on the task of sorting all this out! Good luck and we will all be very interested in progress.

You will probably stand in several queues before you are corrected.:)
