What are the chances that Zille will call it a day not long after the results are finalized? With all the pre-election work, effort and money she and her team have put in I can imagine she'll be pretty despondent. How can you do so much and have so little impact.

If the DA grow by even 1% from the previous national election, then its a big win for them... they're currently looking at growing by nearly 8%, that is a fantastic result. Not sure why you think Zille will be despondent with such a result.

I guess you're right...perhaps I'm just hoping for a miracle here i.e. DA taking Gauteng.

I hear you but with the whole e-toll debacle I reckon the DA thought they could bag Gauteng this time around.

Indeed, there are millions like that!

I was really hoping that DA would take Gauteng, or even just the Tshwane Metro. But like last time, the DA surged ahead, and then eventually lost as the sheep votes were counted.

Perhaps because they've worked incredibly hard to actually provide a credible alternative to the ANC. They've governed well, they campaigned very hard, they put in the effort with their policies. And at the end all you get is Zuma laughing and flipping them the bird.

At some point you have to ask yourself what the hell more you need to do.

Gotta say, I'm quite a bit disappointed in the population of SA. Not unexpected, of course.
 
You guys also ignoring the growth in the DA to 25% in the Northern Cape - double their amount in the 2009 election.

Lots of (historical) trust issues in this country still. All round actually. People still vote for the smallest parties for whatever reason. Governance is still not a big enough consideration in the vote, which is sad. I'd say we have 60% history vote, 20% self serving (those benefiting or expecting to benefit from keeping the ANC in power) and 20% (better the devil you know). Even in the WC, the coloured vote is mainly a race trust issue.

Nah, i dont think the DA will be disappointed with an 8% increase, if they came in under 20% they would probably be disappointed. It will likely take another 20 years before a party could make a decent challenge against the ANC.

Which is part of the frustration, for me at least. It takes so incredibly long before we even get a chance to vote. Meanwhile they got so many more years to continue looting and fscking up.

The DA got just under 25% in the municipal elections, so it is hardly a change if they stay where they currently are.

Which is why I do get why people don't bother with voting. The reality is that complete change in SA will only come once the black majority gets tired of the ANC.

compared to the municipal elections, it is hardly a massive growth.

The DA had no chance of winning GP. There was a chance of bringing the ANC down to less than 50%. And it is not far from that
 
I was hoping for the contrary, but it has been affirmed that the majority of South Africans are dumb as bricks. We should just make peace with it.

Problem is COPE is much better policy wise than EFF but election wise the results seem the same as 2009 with the exception of EFF replacing COPE. Those 20 EFF members in parliament are going to be problematic.

Partly true, but also remember that the Western Cape has been run by the ANC before, so your argument about race trust doesn't really make sense.
