That's the best you can come up with? I asked for examples of ANC progress and you give me some case of where in your opinion the Western Cape have more white managers in local government than black? You have to do better than that.

Many people are much better off than they were since the ANC came into power, I remember visiting Tembisa in the early 90s and there was rubbish everywhere and the place had infestation of flies. Today those rubbish mounds are all gone and regular refuse collection is happening (thanks to the Masakhane campaign). In many villages there are now more brick houses (that people built for themselves) than mud houses, people have electricity and had running water at some point, but that's dried up due to lack of maintenance unfortunately.

With these improvements and Zuma coming in we have a rise of tenderpreuners. People look at this guys who started at nothing and are now multimillionaires and aspire to do the same. Many people look at this and wonder if it will continue if they vote else wise. Good was done but unfortunately corruption is entrenched and endemic now.

It's worrying me that you don't know about the spat between Labour and Zille on WC EE stats, because it happens every year. You don't remember Zille saying they dont hire more blacks in WC government because they are not many qualified blacks in the WC (paraphrase)? That's where the disconnection is, because blacks remember this kind of things.

Black people make up around 30% of the WC population, and ANC got 30+% the last time around, and they are on the way there even now.

Neither, the DA appointed an all white male executive (and Zille) in the WC. And mainly white mayors everywhere they ruled, so they obviously have no faith in the ability of black people (they have never actually been able to answer that). Maybe people see this and think, wait so that's what will happen when the DA comes to power. The DA is only waking up to this fact only lately. Look, they probably made those appointments because the party is traditionally white and in politics you reward loyalty.

People forget another thing here. Many black professional have seen what happened in the WC when the DA took over, and they are scared DA will do that nationally. Remember that majority of government managers in the WC were black, and now are white. So that's a legitimate reason why they are not voting DA. The problem with black people is that they dont' raise their views publically as they should, rather they raise them through votes.

Your point is valid, it is just not about black professionals. Given that the state is one of SA's largest employers, the employees of the state will make up a significant percentage of the voter black and they are more likely to come out and vote, given that they can be under threat if there is a regime change.

I can agree with that. A recent poll (widely covered in the media) found that a large percentage of black people think that the DA will reintroduce Apartheid if they should take control. LOL.

I blame it on the DA not distancing themselves from the previous incarnation.. the NP... enough. Heck, they should even have rebranded and renamed the party. And I in my humble opinion think many blacks still link a white face to apartheid. And with that in mind it does not help much that the DA have too many white faces in their leadership...

But all of this is not excuse for the black people to vote for the ANC over and over again. There are many alternatives. Heck, I'm sure that the ACDP wont be an evil organization if they will ever take over the reign. Do they have good leaders? No clue. But please dont vote for an imbecile (Zuma) just because the main opposition might give you too many white nightmares.

The used to have 2/3. And even after they lost 2/3, they only needed one more vote. Easily done with the help of AZAPO or any of the other aligned parties.

I have relatives who live in Tembisa. There unfortunately a lot more people there than there was in the 90s (lots of Mozambicans) and they are trashing the place but the municipality does try to clean up. I don't know which part of Tembisa you saw.

Every election will be the same. The DA will do well initially then the huge number of township voting stations come in last and the ANC has it's 60%. At least this year from a neutral observers point of view it will be interesting

I don't understand why so many on here find it hard to believe people vote for the ANC.

I voted for the DA but know of a few poorer family members who voted for the ANC and will continue voting for the ANC.

They have all received housing, grants, electricity etc since '94 and will continue voting ANC because of that. Millions of South Africans have benefited like this. I don't agree with it but you can't blame them. They have legitimate reasons for voting ANC even though we disagree.
