I got my card swapped this morning! Yippeee! Thanks to V3G for his part in the whole episode. I did however had to go back to the store that I purchased it from originally where they did organise a card for me. So Im happy, but I will never return to the Vodashop in Mimosa Mall Bloemfontein! Bad service!;)

Finally got my 3G swopped:D . The sales person at GlenFair Vodashop was very efficient, no problems at all;) .

I am so very disappointed with Vodacom.
According to their IVR on 082155, I can go to any vodashop, even though my service provider is nashuamobile (currently no stock). However having gone to a bunch of vodashops including the useless one in vodaworld, apparently this is not the case. Even nashuamobile are under the impression that it's possible
Go figure.

They're wrong, you can go to any service provider. While you're there, get htem to call the Trade Partner Helpdesk. Don't take no for an answer.

wooops wrong.

This actually happened.
the "lady" at vodaworld would not budge.
guess i'll be waiting until my SP has it's own stock
Even the dolt on 082155 who mad eme hold for 7 minutes, said I have to go to my own SP.

The only time you have to go to your 'original' store is when you bought the card outright, i.e. without a contract. In this case there's nothing on the systems that can trace you.

All other cases, you can swap anywhere.

Please get names, numbers, etc. and PM me if you get stick.

Due to the recent successful introduction of HSDPA to the South African market, Vodacom today announced that, effective 21 April 2006, any customer who owns a locally purchased Vodacom 3G Data Connect Card can visit any Vodacom approved outlet for a free swop-out for a 3G HSDPA Data Connect Card
Good news, it really seems as if comments posted here (and at sites such as Hellopeter.com) are taken to heart!

Has anybody recovered the HSDPA upgrade fee?

I think someone asked the question earlier, but has anyone managed to recover the upgrade fee yet?

I took a 3G 500 package with a HSDPA card a couple of weeks ago, and the Vodashop charged me a R300 fee for taking the HSDPA card instead of the normal 3G card. Now it seems to me that fee should be refundable, but with typical "blank salesperson response" they know nothing about the refund of upgrade charges.

Does this fall within the upgrade charges mentioned by V3G, and should the dealer know about it?

Swap out

No, at this point in time it does not work at all. The firmware in the router must be updated to support the new cards and (although in beta testing already) will be available in June.

In the meantime use your router with a 3G card and as soon as the firmware is available, swap the card.

when is the end date for the swap out....

No Stocks

I'm not to sure if there is a specific end-date, but logically there'll need to be one.

Will check up.

I have just been to PMB's largest Vodacom Shop (Midlands Liberty Mall) armed with not only my old card and all the required extras but also a few pages printed out from this thread ...

Mohammed, guy who seems to be in charge of things 3G here seemed sceptical about "who this vodacom3g dude is" but eventually told me that he has NO stock and when he does get it will be allocted to new contracts first, swapouts second. :(

Anyway, at least he got the sales lady to take down my details and contact info, says they should have stock in a week ... ;)

They will be getting a phone call a day from me starting 2mrow. It's obvious this "rebate" will end sometime and I don't want to loose out.

Any other way of knowing (short of calling on all the v/Shops) when Pietermaritzburg will be getting their stock? I don't see a high demand for HSDPA here compared to the main centres.

@ WRX They probably do have stock they just not willing to let it go on swopouts AFAIK Voda recieved plenty stock of the Novatel cards and were distributing them to stores last week.

Happend to me I called they said we have stock got there and said plz can i swop this card out and then they had no stock. Called again from the parking lot and they had stock .... I spoke to the same person all 3 times.

Stock will be limited for a while as everyone rushes to do the swap-out.

Be assured you won't be penalised if there is a stock shortage.

Next time call them and first inquire about a new contract....if they have stock, then you know...

If you battle, PM "this vodacom3g dude" with all the details. ;)

Thanks V3G, will try it this way and let you know in time. I might be overly hasty, not sure if if my local tower (Scottsville or nearby) is HSDPA enabled yet.

No harm in being prepared though! :D

If it's 3G-enabled, it's HSDPA.

Have on look on the coverage map on vodacom.co.za.

Well that settles it - I am on 3G now, 3 bars signal; so HSDPA must be there. :D

Thanks again!

I've done just that, please get back to me (Autopage do not have stock, they claim that Vodacom will look after their own shops first) ...
