Msg to V3G: I tried today to swap my 3G card for a HSDPA card and my local Vodashop refused to swap it. I took it out on contract at Vodacom4u, but as they did not have stock they advised me to got to the local Vodashop. They said that they wont swap it for me as I did not get the contract from them! I asked if it was a Vodacom or Owner decision and they informed me it was the owners decision. They are the only local Vodacom approved shop that have cards in stock. Please sort this out for me. The Shop is Vodashop Mimosa Mall in Bloemfontein. I can give you the owners name and tel number if needed. Will appreciate your help, as they were not very helpfull!

I think Vodacom HQ should just put a policy in place. If every shop just decide willy-nilly how they will run this process then in the end of the day you
get a bunch of unhappy customers who will now have half the country's Vodashops on their hatelist . I'm sure Vodacom -wants- to give the impression that all their franchise shops are actually providing customer service.

If they don't want to shop out their own stock they should at least provide the service of shipping+ordering the card from the specific Vodashop. Just like if i went to ABSA in Kroonstad and they do not have product X, they are not going to tell me to go to ABSA PTA, THEY will do that [i.e. ordering/transferring etc etc]. Even though it might take longer, i'd imagine it is their duty?

I called the above shop. The lady said "can only be swopped if I bought my contract in March".

vodacom3g, is there ANY way that I can get the correct message through to them?

I think you caught them a bit too early. I rocked up there at about 10.30AM and handed over my old 3G card when she told me that she needed my software CD and aerial and whole shebang. A little bit of yadda yadda later I walked out with my speeedster. Posting 3.5G style at the moment. ;)

ahh internaut! I also got the whole CD software yadda yadda from my sales lady.
I left the store licking my wounds !

I don't have the cd dumped that long ago!:( It's so oudated, and I don't have a library to store my outdated cd's!
Now I'm suppose to go the canal walk in customer care store and get a cd to add to my package and then return to the store ? thats sounds nuts? Taking a cd then giving it back to vodacom.
What were your convincing words to your sales lady ?

It wasn't words as such, probrably the different shades of red my face went through as I expressed my disappointment. However it doesn't make sense giving back outdated software infact you dont need the software that comes with the HSDPA card because it's the same release as 6.03.002 on the Vodacom site. The card and maybe the supplied antennae is all you need.

Ok i got my card swopped after cornering the manager of the store at Eastgate. I told him when I call they have stock when I get there an say swap out all of a sudden cards are out of stock. He says we have some stock and say plz swop out the card they know about the swop out deal because he immediatly says i need the packaging i tossed that really who keeps that, i then call 155 they say no card and cd is all u need i dnt have the version 4 cd and tell him ok take the cd out of the new package hell keep the package to all i want is the card and antenna eventually he gave in and i got my card seems they are doing everything in there power not to swap them out and hold on to the cards they got for new contracts which is reasonable but dnt lie to me tell me straight we have cards but would like to keep them for new contracts as we dnt have many can we call u on monday if we have recieved our stock I'm a businessman too and I'm reasonable i would have said sure i understand but making me drive to ur store after telling me there is stock and then get told sorry we dnt have and I call again from the parking lot and u say we do have stock sir is just not on.

Speedster....what a description...This is awsome..
Watching the blinking lights,I can see it only works on demand..most of the time,2 blinks,download,3 blinks...great..

3G for router swapable with HSDPA later?

Quick question regarding the swap-out and guys like me taking out a new 3G contract to go with the router... till the firmware update in June, I can only use the old (never thought I'd say that ;)) 3G card with the router. Since I'm taking out a new contract (I bought the router seperately) I asked my local Vodashop to supply me with a 3G card and not the HSDPA one. Now my question: once the firmware update for the router is available, would I also be able to swop out for the HSDPA card or does certain restrictions apply?

In the meantime use your router with a 3G card and as soon as the firmware is available, swap the card.

Mmm, didn't search deep enough into this post... you actually allready answered my question :o Thanks!

Exchanged my card today at the Vodashop in Tygervalley.

I first called to confirm card availability - got the usual 1Feb line but insisted they call Vodacom and confirm. Store called me back with the news that the swap was ok.

Send wife through with my ID book and old 3G card..

Store demanded original antenna and software/packaging from wife; I phoned store and explained that this was not mentioned during my original phone call.

Wife has the mutters that the store attendant was really rude and short with her.

Anyway, I now have the new card together with the LPDA-A0021 antenna.

No 3G coverage where I live; hoping to get EDGE.

Got mine swaped at the Vodacom 4me store at Clearwater Mall on the WestRand.Very very helpful manageress, Ronels her name...ill definitely support that store in future seeing the service i received...phone no: 011 679 4153

Another thing guys:
Keep the clip that you got with your old antenna as the new card ( i got the Option card so dont know about the Novatel ) comes with an antenna but no clip to clip the antenna onto your laptop screen - only a sticky tab which is not as versatile as the clip.
KEEP your old clip when upgrading.

V3G:
1:Whats the diff between the option and Novatel cards?
2: I know u answered this before, but one more time pls:
On the option card, what lights mean what?
what is GPRS, what is EDGE, what is 3G and what is HSDPA?

thanks

I'll get the full sequence but:

red is GPRS/EDGE and blue is 3G/HSDPA

double flash is the 'slower' speed (either GPRS or 3G)
triple flash is the 'higher' speed (either EDGE or HSDPA)

You'll notice if you're not transferring data the card will fall back to 3G (double flash) but as soon as you request data the card will switch into HSDPA (triple flash)

Yay! I got a store with stock in Pretoria and got it swopped. Seems all these smaller stores got stock but the larger stores [in large malls] got nothing. Got mine swopped at Vodashop Glenfair in Lynwood.

..and now my bandwidth is dissapearing way too fast [watching streaming episodes now actually works ;P ]
