Free wireless network shows strong growth

hehe,
if you are connected to wug and internet at the same time you need to add a route to your network adapter so you can access both at the same time. route -p add 172.16.0.0 MASK 255.240.0.0 <routerboard_ip>
 
Right I am more trying to figure out why connecting to the WUG is a good thing - I get file sharing for free and gaming good pings maybe but beyond that?

Just Wish I could Connect to it though... Unfortunately I have to much tree's directly at my house... and I don't think the land lord would appreciate a 15m Tower in the yard. :-D

Can you tell me why connecting to the Internet is a good thing? Yeah sure you get some browsing and stuff but beyond that? ;-)

I am also looking at getting onto the CTWUG. Even priced getting my whole complex onto it too..... :P

I tried twice to join the CTWUG, but just couldn't seem to get a test kit from anyone :( Very sad as I had so much to share....

Of course :)

I'm just pointing out that someone came up with the concept of Skype on the Internet so now you use it. Same principle applies to the WUG. Anything people think up can be used on the WUG. This is where we get Wikipedia mirrors, reverse proxies, WUGtube, video streaming etc from. Anything is possible. If you can't do something on the WUG, it's because you haven't figured out how yet! :p [obviously I'm not referring to routing to/on the Internet, apples and pears :)]. There are also a bunch of uses of the network which I'm not going to go into detail on.. (think of point-to-point VPNs, remote data backup, offline website mirrors and so on). Like ProtzKrog always says, "anything you can do over IP". One would think it would be obvious, but that's just me I guess.

To be part of the WUG is free, yes. But as it stands, the PtaWUG has in certain areas way too many users for the amount of highsites available, meaning adding many new members at this stage would greatly decrease speeds and latencies on the WUG for existing users. My proposal is that members, especially new ones, must commit themselves to the actual expansion of the WUG with regards to adding and upgrading highsites. This can be done either by donating money for highsite upgrades or new highsite projects, or actually physically helping with the building and improvement of highsites. See, many people join the WUG, and really just suck and suck out of the WUG instead of ever offering to give back to the WUG. In the long run this kind of attitude among users will cripple the project completely. So if you want to join the PtaWUG, if you are not willing to contribute in one way or another, then don't join.

Yes. But don't worry, keep scratching your head long enough and maybe something will come to you.

I would love to connect to the WUG but I move too often, so it seems like too much of a schlep. Moved three times in the last year, moving again next month, and will likely move again within a year or two of that.

what about hermanus? is there coverage. more info : like is it flat rate unshaped uncapp data? how much? the deal?the package?
