Free wireless network shows strong growth

Cost to connect is around R2000 for the Wug kit, and about R300 to R500 for your pole, brackets and cat5, depending on your installation.

And loads of time and patience to learn how to do it :D

Just want to add to this article that Cape Town Wug has over 300 users now, and we have linked to Somerset West and Stellenbosch. Both Hout Bay and the Paarl/Wellington area have a few users connected and we are working on linking those networks to CTWUG too.

For more info you can view my sig ;)

What's the total cost to get connected nowadays?

It cost me around R2,400 to get connected but that was because I got someone to do it for me (too old and lazy to do it myself). He came around installed, configured network, got my machines up and running and left. If you do it yourself you can save a few hundred.

Can you PM me the contact details? fanks man!

Congratulations to PTAWUG for what they have achieved. Dawie and friends are doing a great job, and shows that ‘a boer maak n plan’ :D

Nice to see a Article about the Wug's again...
Just Wish I could Connect to it though... Unfortunately I have to much tree's directly at my house... and I don't think the land lord would appreciate a 15m Tower in the yard. :-D

woo hoo !
why use commercial vendors when you can do-it-yourself !!

Fearl3$$, you must keep scanning, you might pick something up as we are always putting up new HS and getting our coverage more and more dense. One day we want to get it to the point it does not matter where you are in PTA, as soon as you turn on your laptop, it will pick up a PTAWUG hotspot :)

Would be great when we get to that density :) pull out laptop, scan, connect . :)

Well around my house I have a few users who are doing that.. Open laptop, scan, connect and you're on the WUG :) It can be done, just takes some effort.
