Frogfoot Port Elizabeth

I don't think any other FNO can be as bad as FF is right now for Port Elizabeth.

What is the installation fee, if I may ask? Do you need to have the line installed for x amount of time before they waive the fee? The reason I am asking is because we didn't have a fee (living in a complex though) so I am curious to know how they lock people in.
There was an installation fee of around R1800 (if I remember correctly) and if I cancelled within a year, I would have to pay that. Although with service levels this bad why would we have too? Yep, I know they'll throw the "this is consumer-based broadband with no SLA" book at us, but sheesh...

Although it sucks, I would gladly pay R1800 to move away from FF and to a better provider. But as you said, it shouldn't be necessary at all. I think the best thing to do in this case is to log a case with your ISP each and every time there are issues so that you have a record of it. Then when the time comes around, you have evidence to provide to them when they give you that bill.

I am not sure giving them traceroutes and ping stats will hold up, but a proper case logged with your ISP should hold some value if you wanted to pursue this route.

Been doing that just so that I have a record of it from Frogfoot and Vox.

Been doing that just so that I have a record of it from Frogfoot and Vox.

I did the same and sent it all to Vox - requested some kind of refund after 3-4 months of unusable internet.
Vox not interested at all and didn't give me the time of day.

No refunds even in the face of all the logs and papertrails where they admit it's a massive Frogfoot failure. (After lying about it for the first months, forcing me to do test after test every night even after it was clear as day that it was Frogfoot congestion)

Dropped from 80mbps to 20-30mbps max on testmy.net over the last 7 months (on a 100mbps line, while other folks are getting 80 on Afrihost for eg)
(Speed to EU client server crawling at 500kb mostly, other days it flies.)
Experiencing international traffic getting throttled very often (which I reported to them 9 months ago), which is still happening - and their answer is always "Vox does not guarantee international traffic".
Enraging.

Paperwork is done and moving to @PBCool next month after enviously following their thread for months.

Still sucks that Frogfoot is the underlying problem, but following the CI thread it's incredible to see how they communicate with their clients and tackle all the issues in detail and in all earnest, compared to Vox where it's just one big middle-finger the whole time if you have any issues.

THe installation charge isn't from them. It's from FF from what I could see. But it's total BS really. We get told that no matter what we need to be online. So if Internet goes down, go into the office. Which we DON'T want to do. So it's damned if you do, damned if you don't.
It's really simple...Telkom NEVER went down like this and I am willing to swear on the Bible on that. How many people in my suburb have taken up fibre? Not sure...but man we are being hammered.
My speeds don't drop off too badly, but I get a daily SMS about issues on the FF network (sometimes more than once, and I am sure you all do too!). Apology after apology.

Which is why I was wondering what SADV were like...

Same

CI have processed my migration order with FF for 1 December.

Not going to miss VOX's middle finger attitude.

Sadly stuck with FF as there is no alternative in my area. Yet.

Telkom has signed up with FF as ISP. We gonna even more over subscription.
How would that make any difference? Frogfoot is already an open network. Afrihost is a better ISP than Telkom Internet for fibre imo, and suffers all the same Frogfoot issues. Your data setup isn't going to resolve network infrastructure problems.

Woke up this morning to do my work check-in and the kids school check-in...Internet dead. Logged a call with Frogfoot who wanted to check my ONT (I had already restarted it TWICE!) and which came up around 7:20AM.
Logged a call with Vox...still waiting. Normally takes 24 hours. Apparently you have to log a call with your ISP who then in turn log a call with Frogfoot. I couldn't care less, I log with both of them.
But, I stated that their downtime for no reason is pathetic. It really is...once this year-long contract is done, I might seriously consider switching to SADV (anyone got experience with them). I won't pay the installation fee even when I can prove their service sucks.

I also got the generic 'log it with your ISP' message.

So I did. logged a call at 08h40 with mweb, haven't had a response yet. @MWEBHelp , I summon thee!

The internet is still slow like a slug in molasses but at least it's working (sort of):

My smokeping server is down while they do the renovations but my speeds are still slow. No response to my mweb ticket logged yesterday at 8h40.

I feel for you on Mweb. I'd have been in the same boat as you but I canned the installation as they couldn't reply to anything I sent them 2 weeks after I replied.
Hope you come right.

Is there no trial you can take from Axxess or Vox or Afrihost? I know there is a 1GB ADSL offering from Axxess for instance. If they have something similar for fibre then you can at least use that as motivation to get out the contract with Mweb (assuming you want too).

I'm not too sure actually. As far as I understand it, the service is tied to your installation number so for instance, using a 1000/1000 account will still only yield me 50/50 which I am currently on. I tested this with a mate's details, who was on a 200/200 package, and I still only got my 20/20 speeds back then. He tried my 20/20 details on his router and got his 200/200 speeds.

Our work manages our ftth lines through DiData so we are stuck with mweb and no ability to switch, unfortunately. If by 8h40 I have no response I will need to try another route, as this line is unbearably slow for pretty much anything except forums and lightweight news sites.
